F1 2010: Japanese GP

One of the few races I get to see live, being in the eastern hemisphere time zone...and then rain washed out Qualifying!
F1 Live Timing will have to do for the rescheduled run in 3 hours time.

Hamilton is having a torrid weekend, his tiny brush with the barriers destroyed all the new bits on the car. McLaren flew replacement pieces out to Japan, then found the gearbox u/s. Automatic 5-place demotion on replacement.

Mind you, it's to be a rainy race, anything is possible.

No rain...
Vettel
Webber
Alonso

Mark put one on Sebastian on the last lap: fastest lap!
That would've hurt, there is a lot of competition there.

Kobayashi overtook any and everything, driving like one possessed.
Made up an amazing 7 spots on his grid position.

3 races to go, still 5 drivers in contention.
Be interesting to see what the new Korean track delivers.

Been an 'interesting' weekend!
Unfortunately Suzuka was almost dead boring compared to Bathurst and the Malaysian MotoGP.
Lorenzo kept his cool and is only the second Spaniard to to the premier category World Champion, Valentino put in a great ride for a long overdue win and the best part of the F1 GP was seeing Marcus nick the fastest lap!!
:jump:
Bathurst was excellent, but it was a 7 hour sprint race, not an enduro.
Only spoiler is the Moto2 round which is a 'delayed' telecast, 03.00 on Monday morning.
Gotta love whoever came up with the PVR!!

The first race I did not get to see because of the time difference and a visit to a reptile fair this morning. Not a bad race but Suzuka is one of my favorites anyway.

Kamui did well (Good tactics too) but he was a bit lucky that Massa, Kubica and Rosberg did not finish.

Well,
It looks like Webber has the World Championship locked up....I wonder if McLaren is kicking themselves for letting Adrian Newey go :ques:

Three races to go, 75 points for three wins still to be earned and Webber only has a 14-point lead over Alonso and Vettel; this fight is still far from over! :jump:

Both Hamilton (-28) and Button (-31) have a chance as well!

As long as Webber isn't taken out & isn't bit by mechanical gremlins, the World Championship is his....

Webber needs a podium finish in each race to take the Championship, no matter what else happens.
Sounds easy, doesn't it?

That's not enough for him.. 1st = 25 points, 2nd = 18 points and 3rd = 15 points. If Alonso or Vettel wins the next two races and Webber comes in second two times two drivers will be tied in points with one race to go..

Given how unstable Alonso & Vettel are, it's a definite possibility....

The championship contenders:

1: Webber 220 points (4 wins)
2: Alonso 206 points (4 wins)
3: Vettel 206 points (3 wins)
4: Hamilton 192 points (3 wins)
5: Button 189 points (2 wins)

The last six races:

Alonso: 108 points (3 wins)
Webber: 92 points (1 win)
Vettel: 85 points (1 win)
Button: 56 points (0 wins)
Hamilton: 47 points (1 win)

Alonso seems to be in the best shape right now.. IMHO Webber needs to finish ahead of both him and Vettel at least once. Abu Dhabi and Brazil look like Red Bull tracks (Though the weather could play havoc in Brazil); Korea is of course a new track (Though it is still uncertain if this race will even take place!) and that should be good for Alonso.

I would love to see Webber take the title this year (Would be good for my online F1 manager game!) but I'm afraid the Red Bull focus on two drivers will allow Alonso to take the title..

The best scenario for Webber: Korea is cancelled, Red Bull takes a one-two in Abu Dhabi (Vettel lets Webber win, Alonso finishes third) and Mark needs only one point for the title in Brazil.. :wiggle:

Again, I too want Webber to take the title, but unless Red Bull is going to tell Vettel to help him with that, Alonso has the best chance! A repeat of Turkey could see Red Bull end up empty-handed again this year..

Oops my bad - that's what you get for listening to commentator drivel instead of making the sum ;)
I think Webber is a deserving looking World Champion but I also fancy Alonso's chances.
He is very motivated and has the factory squarely behind him.

So Vettel will have a DNF somewhere and finish 3rd in the drivers' stakes!
Kubica finally gets in a 2nd place, and gets the vital 18 points to split the leaders
Webber, overcome by the prospect of winning, becomes over cautious and settles for 3rd place all the way, misses out in Korea with a 4th place, and ends up 2nd in the championship.
Alonso gets a win, a 2nd, and a 3rd, and takes the title!

Maybe not very likely, but it's not over yet...

I think Webber has planned for the long haul....saving engine's and gearbox's for when it really counts.

============================
I wish I could find a clip that was on the news of the top the mountain crowd on Friday at Bathurst. They had a little news clip of a bigger bloke doing a splashdown in one of those little kiddy blow up wadding pools wearing a Borat type mankini, then commented to the camera "I'd like to say hello to my wife who has just disowned me".

It's never over until the fat lady sings and I doubt the RBR management have the testicular fortitude to back Mark over the 'Little Sebastian' but he (Webber) is showing a certain Alan Jones type of determination.

I know I sound very biased but Webber has earned a championship, he came up the hard way and has never had anything for free, but I doubt 'Loyalty' is in the RBR lexicon, as there is almost none in F1 who can even spell it, let alone understand the meaning.
And really, F1 needs a 'man' as a champion, not another 'boy'.

Having said that, I'll take Alonso over any of the rest, he might be 'Spanish' but he is the real deal.

:australia: :ernae: :australia:

Since you put it that way...
If RBR do go 1/2 Vettel/Webber all the way, Vettel wins.

Mark has to win one of these last three.
That means he must get on pole, all else being equal.
This is not going to be all that easy.

Whoever wins the Drivers' Championship, it's one of the toughest in years, and will be well deserved.

I think Webber has planned for the long haul....saving engine's and gearbox's for when it really counts.

I think Webber still has two new engines for three races (Maybe used one of those in Japan), Vettel only one and Alonso has used all of his engines at least once before.
