"Failed to read a File"

Started P3D this morning and got this error message. After I clicked out of that the program failed to start and closed with a fatal error. Subsequent attempts to open P3D failed. I attempted to allow the cfg file to rebuild but that did nothing to correct the "No-Start". The program functioned normally this morning when I loaded it long enough to take some screenshots of a current livery I'm working on.

Anyone experience anything like this before?

Nothing like that, have you looked at your event viewer to find any error files? I'd look at any error files to see what may be the problem.

Thanks for that suggestion Rick. It fixed whatever it was that ailed P3D. Back up and running!! Thanks again!

Looks like a complete reinstallation is in my future. It loaded fine last evening after a new installation of the Client files. . .this morning I get "Fatal Error". Quite aggravating, to say the least.:banghead:

Not a very nice birthday present!

You might also try reinstalling "Content and Scenery" as well, just follow the previous guide...
Worth a try before a complete reinstall

One thing I failed to do last night was to delete the current cfg file and the shaders folder. . .I did that then uninstalled and reinstalled the Client and it has been working fine ever since. Been in and out of the sim all day checking some scenery work and I haven't had any more problems.

Excellent! Glad it is working.....
A better birthday present!

Still getting intermittent "Fatal Error" messages on startup. I never know from one session to the next if P3D will actually load or not. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Client portion twice now and each time it seems to correct the problem but obviously it isn't a permanent fix. I fear having to uninstall and reinstall the entire program with everything I have installed in P3D (aircraft mostly). . .the thought of that makes me happy to simply go back to FSX and fly there, lol. Ughh!:dizzy:

Delete your "confg" file again and see what happens

You might also try reinstalling "Content and Scenery" as well, just follow the previous guide...

Thanks Rick, but I just got back from a Birthday Party to see your post and I had already uninstalled the entire P3D Installation, all payware aircraft uninstalled, all payware scenery uninstalled, numerous reboots and defrags, and CCleaner run several times to wipe out the leftovers, and if I have time this evening I'll start over with a fresh installation of P3D. I also started having the same/similar problem with FSX and so that has also been completely wiped clean in the same process as above.

This has been a nagging problem for some time and I just became tired of putting a bandaid on a sucking wound. Time for a serious attitude adjustment, lol

Best of luck on the reconstruction!
I went through that 10 months ago-not fun.

What error are you getting in event viewer?? that may help..

Ed,
there seem to be issues with the CMeteoXML.dll file. There are quite a few postings in regard to it.
Some relate it to the Carenado weather radar. You also might want to check this:

HTH,

Thanks Mark,

True to form I tend to "leap" before I "look" most times and a quick "Google" would have saved me a lot of downtime. I have disabled the file and will press on with the reinstallation of P3D. The one advantage to what I'm doing is it offers a chance to "Clean Out" a lot of unused addons and start fresh. So it wasn't a total waste.

I hear you on that. Once in a while it's good to un-clutter the whole thing. But this has become a slippery process of it's own ever since FTX and other complex addons took the external control over parts of the sim. And that ton of licenses you need for re-installing! Last time I did that it took me several days to get where I wanted to.

Cheers,
Mark

I have attached a document from LM on the correct to install P3DV3 that might help if you have not already done so
Make sure you look at the last page because there might be some folders left behind that you have to manually delete

Agreed. . .On one hand it like it because I don't have to make sure I have the latest download from the store I bought the addons from. . .BUT, I only have a smidgen of what many users of Orbx addons have installed and it has taken me 6 hours of download and installation time, just for P3D. I still have to endure the same process again for FSX, lol.
