Fall Gelb - Kampfgeswader and Dunkerque released

I've moved back north again...

Jagdflieger,

For one of the Blenheim escort missions over Dunkerque, where did you ever get the idea to have a collision or near-collision with the formation of Ju-88s and He-111s? The first time I flew the mission, I came within feet of slamming right into the nose of a He-111! Is this encounter something you cooked up because you thought it was just a neat idea, or did you come across some sort of pilot account on the British or German side?

It kind of makes me wonder about what it might be like to "flip" the mission and fly it from the German side as a Zerstorer pilot...

Ha, ha!

I just cooked it up for fun. I thought it might liven up the mission.

I guess the most documented occurrance of that nature was probably at the Battle of the Coral Sea between IJN and USN strike forces.

I've moved back north again...

Good morning,

Following the FAA release, I have moved back north once again, and am currently over the beaches of Dunkerque. The Royal Air Force side is basically finished except for the dynamic elements, but I was thinking of "pulling a Shadow Wolf or Talon" and using the Royal Air Force missions as a base to "flip" them so you can fly them from the German side. To this end, two parallel paths came to mind...

The first would be a fighter / Zerstörer campaign using the Messerschmitt Bf-109e and the Messerschmitt Bf-110c, performing fighter sweeps and bomber escorts against Hurricanes, Spitfires, and Defiants...

The other would be a dive-bomber and bomber-based campaign using the Junkers Ju-87b for three missions, the Heinkel He-111 for two missions, the Dornier Do-17z for two missions, and the Junkers Ju-88 for the final two missions, against the opponents I listed above.

All three of these campaigns will be nine missions in length.

So my question is....is there enough interest for me to bother with doing two versions of the German side, or should I just stick with the fighters?

I speak for myself: I'm very interested in flying the Stuka / bomber side. In fact all three, but most off all the Luftwaffe side as the RAF side has already been covered.

Thanks Rami for your never ending efforts, time and most of all, sharing your passion in this "hobby" with all us.

Discus,

It's my pleasure...I do it because I love it. It just works out well for you guys as well. :icon_lol:

I Just learned some very interesting facts about D day and the landings and other things about the war from a WWII Veteran here in my small town in Colorado, strange how such things happen....he confirmed that there were indeed many german aircraft straffing the beach during D Day, he landed early with the engineers so he was ahead of the first wave of US troops and i think over time the allied historians tried to downplay the presence and effect of Germain air power on the alliied landings, he said that a lot of guys were killed by this straffing and bombing carried out on the beach and on the landing craft..

so i for one would love to be able to fly missions from the German side, we have the landing craft to do a full landing set up for the beach, you would not need to have dynamic waves of landing craft you could just have statics on waves and statics on the beach, say about half way thru the landing so there would be vehicles and stuff on the beach...

another very interesting fact i have never learned anywhere else...this guy said that the Japanese were sending hot air balloons over the US coast BEFORE pearl Harbour, warning of the danger of war breaking out with Japan and the US and warning the people along the coast. these were launched from Submarines and they were explicit and detailed...i have never heard about this from any other source but this man is totaly reliable...and I believe that covering up such warnings would be very typical of the US military mind set, they wanted to portray the Japanese as war mongers, barbarians and bandits and tried to cover up any sign of them being profesiosnal and honourable soldiers and military.... this was a remarkable find in terms of history.

I know of course of the indendiary balloons the Japanese launched on the US coast but this was a humanitarian effort very distinct from that and these balloons with the warnings were not armed in any way.

CrisGer,

I pretty much have the D-Day period covered from British, Canadian, German, and American perspectives. This would be for Dunkerque, you know, four years previous when they were going in the opposite direction.

Good evening,

Well, the first nine missions, the ones from the RAF side, have been fully updated, and are now completed. Now the hard part begins...I have to take those, flip them to make them German, and make eighteen more missions out of them, from both a bomber perspective and a fighter perspective.

Good evening,

Here are a couple of mission texts for the Germans...and the missions themselves are progressing. CrisGer has been most helpful with his insights on the German military.

"title_string"=Fall Gelb (Kampfgeswader) - A promise by Göering
"summary_string"=Achtung, kameraden! Our invasion into France has gone better than we could have imagined, and now we have cut off these British forces from the rest of the French! Our mission now is to prevent them from escaping by sea, denying them the chance to escape back to England!
"objective_string"=By punching through the Ardennes Forest once the Allied forces committed to attacking the German assault on the Low Countries, fast-moving Panzer divisions were able to advance rapidly toward the Channel, cutting off these Allied forces from the rest of the French Army, and forcing them to the beaches of Dunkirk, while the Germans tightened the noose around them.
"intelligence_string"=The British have been using Hurricanes to defend their forces as they retreated to the sea, so there is little reason to expect them to change course at this point. Still, this close to England, be watchful for any Spitfires. Let us now show Panzer General Guderian that an aerial Blitzkrieg can be just as strong as the Wehrmacht's efforts on the ground!
"player_aircraft_name_string"=Junkers Ju-87b 'Stuka'
"airfield_string"=France - Cambrai-Forenville

"title_string"=Fall Gelb (Kampfgeswader) - Fliegender Bleistifte
"summary_string"=Achtung! While the attack by our Stukas inflicted damage to the enemy ships, the Port of Dunkerque is also playing a vital role in the rescue effort, so we're dispatching your bombers on a raid in order to damage the docks and facilities, hoping that we can knock it out of action, redendering it useless to the evacuating forces.
"objective_string"=Following their rapid advance to the Channel, the Wehrmacht was forced to halt the Panzer advance on Dunkirk on 24 May, while the Luftwaffe vowed to destroy the British evacuation effort from the air. Though there were reasons for this decision, (namely supplies and fatigue) the forty-eight hour delay gave Britain vital time to regroup & fortify their defenses.
"intelligence_string"=Escorting fighters for the Stuka attack reported a Spirfire flight mixed in with their Hurricanes, so their aerodromes in Kent must be providing fighter cover for the evacuation. As you attack the harbor facilities, try to focus on the anchored ships and supplies which are reported to be scattered along the docks.
"player_aircraft_name_string"=Supermarine Spitfire Mk. I
"airfield_string"=England - Hawkinge

(I haven't "flipped around" the second mission just yet, but you'll fly a Dornier Do-17Z on that one)

"intelligence_string"=Escorting fighters for the Stuka attack reported a Spitfire flight mixed in with their Hurricanes, so [...]

Hi Rami,

this campaign offers a great opportunity to use Jeff Marsh's Defiant. Their first (and possibly only) successful use was over Dunkerque with 264 Squadron. While it is of little use as a player plane due to the armament arrangement, as an AI plane could be a nasty surprise!

Japlance,

I was planning on using the Defiant, of course. Later on in the campaign, particularly on 29 May, they will be used over the beaches.

Good evening,

Regarding mission builder, I've been struggling with "the muse" since my father passed. Sometimes it has been there, sometimes it has not. However, I continue to make steady progress when so inspired. I've done two missions so far this weekend...

"title_string"=Fall Gelb (Kampfgeswader) - Der fliegenden spaten
"summary_string"=Achtung! The British continue to evacuate forces from the Dunkerque beaches. We can't allow them to escape across the Channel! Your flight is being sent out as part of a combined raid to put Dunkirk completely out of action!
"objective_string"=The British have sped up their evacuation efforts from Dunkerque, and more ships have been spotted by our reconnaissance aircraft. Despite extremely heavy bombing, desparate British efforts thus far have rescued nearly 18,000 troops, though nearly 350,000 are still awaiting rescue.
"intelligence_string"=Yesterday's level bomber raid reported Blenheims & Defiants over the beaches duting the afternoon. We aren't betting on that kind of luck to hold out, so you will be escorted by Messerschmitt Bf-109s during this raid. Try to aim so that your bombs hit the supplies scattered all along the port to ensure maximum destruction. Good luck!

"title_string"=Fall Gelb (Kampfgeswader) - Dreifinger sturzflug
"summary_string"=Achtung! British forces continue to evacuate from Dunkirk, & their effort had turned into a crusade. We must use all of our available resources to sink as many of their vessels as possible, they must not be allowed to flee so easily!
"objective_string"=The Luftwaffe's effort to prevent the evacuation of Dunkirk is not going well. These British forces have been able to round up an amazing flotilla of ships, and they seem to be using both military and civilian vessels in order to get their troops away from France. We'll have to redouble our efforts!
"intelligence_string"=As you approach the convoy, you will want to drop down from 3,000m in a steep dive in order to help increase the impact of your bombs. While over the harbor, ensure that you do not get target fixation and watch for enemy fighters.

And here's a pic of the latter mission...it took me several hours to get the dynamic elements and the timing "just right."

Good morning,

Well, Santa visited my children this morning in So Cal, and I've even had a bit of time to work on missions here and there. With this final mission, two out of the three campaigns for Dunkirk will be completed. I have the original RAF campaign for Dunkerque completed, and the Kampfgeswader campaign is very close to completion as well.

That only leaves the Jagdgeswader campaign to finish. I will be releasing the two campaigns I have completed shortly. :guinness:

Good to hear that you made it to California OK. The airport up here (SEATAC) was closed for a bit due to heavy fog yesterday.

Looking forward to the campaigns.

Good evening and Merry Christmas,

I wanted to let you know that I have released two of the three campaigns for the Battle of Dunkirk. The campaign entitled "Dunkerque" is the campaign originally done by Jagdflieger, which I modified and updated. Inside this campaign package, there is an expanded campaign file which will allow you to fly the campaign together with the Battle of France campaign for the RAF, giving you sixteen missions to fly instead of nine.

The other campaign is called "Fall Gelb - Kampfgeswader," and it has you fly the missions based from the perspective of a German bomber pilot, with the goal of doing all you can to prevent the escape of the British and other Anglo forces on the shores of Dunkerque. In this campaign, you will fly He-111s, Do-17s, Ju-88s, and Ju-87 Stukas. Inside this campaign package, there is an expanded campaign file which will allow you to fly the campaign together with the Battle of France (Stuka) campaign for the Luftwaffe, giving you seventeen missions to fly instead of nine.

The last portion of this effort will be on a nine-mission campaign called "Fall Gelb - Jagdgeswader," where you will fly as a German fighter pilot over the beaches of Dunkerque. These missions will compose bomber escorts and fighter sweeps. I will use the missions from Kampfgeswader and Dunkerque as a base for this final portion of the project.

Enjoy, and happy flying! :wavey:

Thank you Santa...errr sorry, Rami!!

Thanks a lot for this "toys". The Christmas Tree wouldn´t have been the same without them!! Next Christmas I´ll have connected an Internet socket under the lower branch. So when the time comes for openig Christmas presents, voila!!
