SOH-CM-2024
Hello.
My old PC went south this year and I upgraded it but with the current GPU I am stuck with my old card.

Here's my current system specs

Intel i7-10700K 3.8GHz base clock
ASuS ROG Strix Z490H MoBo
32 GB DDR4-3200
GigaByte nVidia GeForce GTX 770 2 GB VRAM
Either a SATA or nVMe SSD Drive
Comcast 1 Gbps Internet.

Can FS2020 run decently until I can get hold of a newer graphics card? I am hoping to get a RTX 3060 Ti but I am not willing to pay 2X (or more) MSRP prices.

Thanks

Merry Xmas!

With an RTX3060TI, you should be good. There are people here running MSFS on cards that are less performant!

Yeah, when I can find one at or near MSRP
I don't know if it worth to get it now or wait for the 3060

If you're open to something portable, I run MSFS mostly in the mid-30's framerate range on a laptop:

TUF Gaming FX505DT
AMD Ryzen 5 3550H
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650
16.0 GB RAM

It has user-controllable fan modes Silent, Performance, and Turbo. I keep mine on Performance, and neither the CPU nor GPU ever get overheated.

I think your only weak link is that 2 GB video card.

I have the same CPU, except mine is the i7-10700 (regular clock) same RAM, same class 490 MoBo, same class nVMe SSD, GTX 1080 8GB

What I think is key to MSFS, is your super-fast 1 Gbps Internet speed! I only have 25 Mbps Internet speed. Therefore, I'll get the occasional cannot load "Photogrammetry scenery" due to low internet bandwidth, but this is rare. If I fly over NYC x 100, with all the bells and whistles running, it might say: .... cannot load "Photogrammetry scenery" only 5-10 times.

I think that video card only supports DirectX 11. So, what! we've all been using DirectX 11 for the 1- 1&1/2 years since MSFS has been out, can that card support HDR and is your monitor an HDR monitor? It really makes MSFS prettier than anything we've ever had before. DirectX 12 was introduced into MSFS with the latest update and only as a "Beta". Almost none of us MSFS 'ers use it.

I think you'll have to limit how many buildings and objects "out on the distant horizon" you would be willing to settle for. I think trees (bush flying, no cities anywhere) would display even easier for you so you could have more of them out on the distant horizon.

I'm with you on holding out for a new video card .... we'll have to wait for the next generation of cards. Anyone who buys a NVidia or AMD card (say from Ebay or the likes) should be aware that those cards are not only overpriced but they have been running nonstop 24/7/365 on a crypto farm somewhere and are to have been overheated and stressed to the max!

I snapped this screenshot a year & 1/2 ago just before the launch of the NVidia GTX 3070,3080, & 3090 displaying the MSRP on NVidia's website back in Sept. 2020. Would anyone pay those outlandish prices the resellers on Ebay and the likes are asking?

I have had this installed maybe a week now and I´m having smooth flights with 1070ti. Just enjoying the scenery and quite high settings as well. No AI traffic though. I´m surprised.

If you're going to build a new PC, even with some existing parts, you may want to reference the PC Part Picker web site. I used that site to build my current PC and have the next virtually built there. It makes sure all of your components are compatible with each other and will find the current vendor with the lowest price for each component. I found it very helpful. Good luck with your new system.

I keep and eye on Best Buy and I have not seen them on stock at those prices for a long time.

Newegg prices are all over the place. Some of them are 3rd party vendors at outlandish prices.

Even their Shuffle prices are way over the "MSRP". Granted that the MSRP prices were probably for a "reference design" and you expect a premium tacked by the better card manufacturers for enhancements but they are still way too high.

For example I just entered the Shuffle for an ASuS TUF Gaming RTX 3060 with 12 GB GDDR6 for $529. I think the original MSRP for the RTX 3060 was around $330. Add more GDDR6 VRAM and other goodies, I would expect the price to be around $425.

I am on a fixed income and there are better uses for my money. I'll just have to keep looking for them at a more affordable prices.

I use the site as a reference but I end up using my own choices. I have been building/testing/debugging systems for a long, long time. Both for personal and work, but I have been retired for a few years and in this business you have to be up to date with the parts and technology.
