File detection in CFS3 Folder?

Hi

I've read this about CFS3 texture handling:

"Unlike other Flight Simulator versions CFS3 has no specific location for textures. They may be placed anywhere in any of the CFS3 folders and they will
still be found and used."

Does this only apply to dds files or are other file types also detected anywhere in the CFS3 folder?
In OFF some of the Modders packed their packages for use with the JS Generic Mod Enabler and it seemed to work well for other file types.

I recently discovered that not only will CFS3 find a dds file anywhere, it won't discriminate between duplicate dds files, and will even load multiple occurrences.

I was having difficulty with water textures in PatPattle's BoB, and that's what it was; duplicate texture files, and CFS3 loaded one, and then the other kept flickering on and off. Drove me nuts till the folks here pointed me toward looking for duplicates.

Don't know about other sorts of files, but it does seem that CFS3 might find them on someone else's computer a thousand miles away! Ok, that's an exaggeration, but I'd beware of duplicates on your machine.

The limit would be the particular CFS3 directory and its sub-directories. A MAW installation texture will not be found by an ETO installation, since each install has its own directory and sub-directories - unless you're determined to make a real hash of installing both to the same directory, in which case good luck mate...

Hi

OK, I'll have to move the Mods folder outside the CFS3 ETO folder then.
JS Generic Mod Enabler is great to use when adding mods! :)

Here's a thought...

What if we made multiple textures for the BF109G-6 with a variation in the prop spinner and then CFS3, in spite of itself, would animate the spiral...(?)...(!)
Does anyone think its a possibility?:icon_eek:

Methinks the entire aircraft would also flicker like a strobe light! :banghead:

Nice try, though...

Yes it is strange CFS3 will find any file, anywhere (in the same directory)..

Heck, I once stuffed a Bf 109 in my closet and the bloody game found it!!!:icon_eek:

Learned to move the files to different directories..When just storing something..

And sometimes to different zip codes..:banghead:
