Filelist.dat error

I added a FW 190 from Simviation and have made my CFS2 inop, I constantly get a series of Filelist.dat errors, file in list, not in "scenedb/weapons/scenery"

Deleting the plane does no good.

Maybe you added a bad weapon or bad weapons. You can safely delete all Filelist.dat found in the SCENEDB subfolders. Do that and left CFS2 rebuild all of the Filelist.dat (CFS2 will rebuild all Filelist.dat on start up).

As Allen said. I have to do this often when testing new models. I notice it happens when I add more then a couple new items of any kind.

Just for info if you are getting

"Can't find the model *NAME* in the library"

means you are missing a weapon.

If you see

"Failed to initialize the database.
You might need to reinstall this product as some
data files are missing or corrupted."

This means a bad weapon/bad weapons or you added a lot of new weapons and it would be best to left CFS2 make new filelist.dats.

This also can happen if you hit the 100 plane limit. The 100 plane limit seems to not be a hard cap so some user can get over 100 while most see to get hit with the cap in the 90s. The quickest way to know if you hit the 100 cap is to go to free flight and start it.

If you are at the 100 plane cap you will get the above Failed to initialize the database error and another box that says "Generation of Quick Combat mission failed"

No where near 100 planes, deleting the filelist.dat files did not relieve the error. It would appear that whatever list is being generated is not finding the associated weapons.

harumph!

Filelist.dat errors, file in list, not in "scenedb/weapons/scenery"

I have to click OK maybe 25 times till the next time it occurs, which seems to be any sim call.

What operating system? I'm think you could be having a prob with Win7 or newer than.

Flieger747,

It sounds like something got corrupted. Did you try running a Windows Search to delete all of your filelist.dat files? Let me know if you have any further questions, I can try to troubleshoot them for you.

I have not previously had any Win 7 errors or issues with CFS2. The one thing it will not let me do is run an uninstall of one of thee weapons packs due to the 64 bit operating system.

The solution is to probably re install-repair the CFS2, but my disks are back at home currently.

I did find a list of about 15 Filelist.dat files using the search function, however deleting these did not fix the issue.

is their an editor which can let me read the contents of the filelist.dat files and edit them or find the necessary weapons?

: )

The Filelist.dat makes a log on all .bgls in the scenedb/weapons/scenery. What I would do is remove all .bgls from scenedb/weapons/scenery folder but for the stock weapons.bgl and see if the error stops. If the error stops add back in say 5 of the .bgls you removed and test.

Keep adding back tell you find the bad .bgl.

Just a reminder here....

there are several files that you can add will automatically cleanout the filelist.dat and CFG files when you click on the shortcut. Saves a lot of time.

Just wondering if the FW190 was in an Auto install file,
If by chance it was..It should show up in your "all programs"
Then go to delete ???

Just my 2 pennies worth,

Dave
