C-5 Galaxy

Great photos Panther.

Coincidently this morning I was jogging down the length of the air base that I'm at right now and there was a C-5 parked on the ramp behind a much newer C-17 Globmaster III. It was interesting to stop and compare the two in close proximity. Another coincidence is the plane that I looked at today is from the same unit as the one in your photos from today.

The C-5 has the most distinctive sound of any jet that I've ever heard when it flies overhead, although you don't notice it when actually flying in the plane. I guess it's the big blades on the compressor stage that provide the by-pass air around the engines. With the airframes on most C-5s approaching 40 years of age, there was some talk of upgrading those engines last year as I recall. Anyone hear anything about that?
