Finally bought it... Lionheart's Quest Kodiak!

This thing looks awesome since its update, and Flightsimdealoftheday.com (whoa, that's a mouthful) totally sold me on it. This superb package for only $12.48? I never did buy it, as I tend to prefer old 'steam gauges', but figured I'd give this new glass panel stuff a try. To be honest, this picture simply sold me... :d

I haven't even flown it yet; just bought it and am still at work. However, I suspect that 491KQ is gonna haul some cargo for AirHauler tonight. :d

Anyone with the Kodiak, please chime in with folklore and shots! :d :ernae:

Just read through the manual before you go flying. Read up on how you set the Auto Pilot, where all the options keys are, things like that, and you should be good to go.

Glass screens are easy if you remember one thing. The middle one is the GPS map, and the outside screens are your instruments. Your ASI, VSI, compass rose, attitude indicator, altimeter are all there, just laid out digitally, all in a rectangular cluster. Once you know where to look for info, you are good to go.

Have fun!

Bill

Yeah, I'll check the manual. Does it feature realistic startup procedures, too? I'd love to learn to realistically start a turbo-prop. I may be the man when it comes to piston engine procedures (radials, inlines, doesn't matter), but I just Ctrl+E it everytime for T-Props. :d :d

Anyway, looking forward to flying this beautiful beast. :ernae:

You're going to love her, PilatusTurbo.

its just too bad ionheart went to the darkside with his jet......very sad.

Very happy Owner of the re-released Kodiak (and every other FS9 Lionheart creation). Ifyou have the A2A 3D-lights, here's the skinny.

light.0 = 3, -0.80, -22.30, 2.89, fx_shockwave_navred
light.1 = 3, -0.80, 22.30, 2.89, fx_shockwave_navgre
light.2 = 3, -9.01, 0, 2.72, fx_shockwave_navwhi
light.3 = 2, -0.86, -22.30, 2.89, fx_shockwave_strobe_nl
light.4 = 2, -0.86, 22.30, 2.89, fx_shockwave_strobe_nl
light.5 = 1, -9.01, 0, 2.72, fx_shockwave_beacon
light.6 = 5, 0.87, 20.90, 2.87, fx_shockwave_landing_light_small_xenon
light.7 = 5, 0.83, -20.90, 2.87, fx_shockwave_landing_light_small_xenon
light.8 = 7, 2.60, 0.00, 1.00, fx_shockwave_vclight,
light.9 = 8, -2.0, 0.00, 2.50, fx_shockwave_vclight,
light.10 = 8, -7.0, 0.00, 2.50, fx_shockwave_vclight,
light.11 = 3, -20.26, 0, 1.94, fx_shockwave_navwhi_nl
//light.12 = 12, 0, 0, 1.94, fx_Kodiak_propblast

Plus I think Bill has givenus enough very high quality Freeware and payware planes that we can lay-off the 'he's abandoned us' jibes.

Starting's easy - almost as easy as starting the C172.

Battery on
Fuel pump on
Pitch and condition to feathered and zero
Igniter on
Repeated clicks on the starter switch (just holding it doesn't work like it does on the default C208's)
When RPM's come up, raise Condition to 50% and the fire should light.
Igniter off
Alternator on
Flatten blades and raise condition lever to taxi.

Ctrl+E starts on t-props are a bit unrealistic, to say the least. First, the pitch gets flattened the same as it does with a fixed speed piston prop. Every t-prop I've ever seen starts with the blades feathered. FS also engages the generator while starting, then turns it off after starting. If you don't manually turn them back on, you end up draining your battery and everything goes black!

I bought the Kodiak simply because I was doing a repaint for my VA and in order to get our lines to work properly I needed to have the model. I did not want to have to send "alpha and beta" versions around to the few pilots that owned the bird.

And of course I did have to try the airplane in the Sim and as much as I piston lover such as myself can fall in love with a Kerosene burner I did do just that with Bill's Kodiak.
It is simply amazing in every aspect. Looks stunning, flies like a dream and has all the wizzbang gizzmos you could ever want.

If I am not flying Connies or Saratogas the Kodiak is just about the only AC now that gets regular use :wiggle::wiggle:

since it's release i fly the kodiak more than anything else. best bang for your buck available imo.
there are soooo many good repaints for the fsx version. i don't know about fs9 version paints if there are any, i mean. i hope some of you come to the dark side, so you can have an epic victory. it's every bit as cool as the kodiak, and seems to have similar stol capabilities :icon_lol:

I mean, that pic I posted says it all. I'm an AirHauler now, and this thing was born for the purpose; and he even modeled cargo in the back. That's one reason Milton and Team's D18 Cargo model had become my workhorse. Being able to turn around and actually see some friggen boxes just adds a whole new level of realism. OCD, I know, I know... :d :d :d

Not mention that I've always liked Cessna Caravans without that aweful bulging belly underneath. This is a bit sleeker, and it has several model options (i.e. without that dang bulge underneath :d)

Anyway, off to give it a maiden voyage.

Tom, Thanks for the checklist, I'm planning to write it down since I have no printer right now, and giving it a shot. :ernae:

Well, maiden voyage conducted... partially. Was getting too late, so I saved the flight in AH, which I don't like doing but hey.

Anyways, I love this thing so far! It's just beautifully crafted inside and out (not that I expected much less), and that VC manages to be so detailed and not touch frames. I've seen other FS aircraft with glass cockpits that murdered FPS, and that's another reason I've always shied away from glass cockpits. This doesn't harm them at all, and I can read almost every little letter and detail from 0.65 zoom.

She flies nice, though, you must pull the power back a touch to avoid over speed. 75% torque gets me the cruise I want, and that's about it. Takeoff was a little crazy due to that torque I just didn't see coming; very realistic, and not something many FS aircraft simulate too often.

Anyway, a couple shots from my flight. Thanks for the great deal on this ship, Bill. :ernae:

Thank you very much for this checklist. From what I observed in real life with a King Air I knew that Ctrl-E didn't quite seem right but once I got the generators back on I didn't mind (that and the details on the starting procedure was a bit fuzzy due to sensory overload being in the co-pilot's chair at the time). I'm gonna give this a go with my Conquest.:ernae:

Edit: My Conquest doesn't have manual pitch control; apparently those are computer controlled IRL (no pitch levers in the cockpit). Still started like a charm with your checklist however (I actually had to use repeated clicks on the starter too). Now with the default Caravan--that one is a bit touchier to start; I'll have to fiddle around a bit more with that one :)

For me, any of the t-props are tricky to start without having a lever or rotary control for the fuel, since it's tough to get to the condition lever quick enough after letting go of the starter switch with the mouse. You can also use Ctrl+F3 to raise the condtion lever while your mouse is on the start switch.

Well after talking to a guy online that has this bird and then seeing the pics of it I broke down today and bought it. Flies like a champ, even if the pilot is as smart as a chimp. Maiden flight in Venezuela with weather, no problems finding my way with the glass panel as I was in clouds most of the way. My one regret, I didn't get this earlier.

Off to do a repaint for my small VA, hopefully I can change the product labels on the cargo.
