First Long Flight with PC-12

All stops are mapped in the GPS, fuel is topped off (running with "unlimited fuel" to simulate the extra 200gal fuel tank), supplies are on-board and sitting at Oakland Airport waiting to take off. Below are a few pics of the PC-12 exterior and interior:

Not sure when I will depart Oakland. . .depends on RW circumstances of course. All flights will be flown real time and I suspect that quite a few will be flown while I'm sleeping (they average between 7 and 9 hours aloft). I won't be doing a massive screenshot travelogue for several reasons. . .1) I'm not a screenshot artist and 2) How many shots of the same PC-12 do you really need to see. . . .it's always gonna look the same.

I'm on vacation in Florida right now and saw one of those fly over head heading into Page Field Fort Myers today out by the coast. It definitely looks like it would be a nice flyer. When I return from vacation I'll have to get my copy installed as well. I'm glad you gave us a heads up for possible install problems as I'll have to keep an eye out for any problems.

Where are you flying to? I'm almost done flying around South America (Orbx Landclass), but I flew most of it in Piglet and Milton and team creations (XP-47J, XP-47H, XP-54, XP-56, and the SAAB J-21. Although, I did make a trip from Patagonia to Antarctica (Aerosoft) in Manfred's C-47.)

Keep us updated. :)

Glad you asked where I was headed. I gave all the information, except the most important. . .this flight will Follow Amelia Rose Earharts PC-21 flight around the world (24,300nm, 108.3 hours, 17 stops).

Beautiful model! One of my all time favorite aircraft to fly in FSX/P3D.

Interesting idea about flying Amelia Earhart's route Ed. It's unfortunate you are not a screenshot artist as you say. It would be inspirational and fantastic to follow through your lens.

By chance, might you publish the route if using GPS? I would very much like to give that a try myself, of course over quite a few days. Great Idea overall Ed. Thanks for the imaginative flight idea.

Matt, here is her website for the Flight. I don't know if she deviated from or amended this route or not, but what you see animated on the home page is the route I'm taking.

I have a "pln" file made up if you need that.

Wow! great site and great looking paint on their PC12. Now I have to ask, did you make your paint to match theirs or is it available for download here or elsewhere?

Thanks for the offering of a PIN file, but what is a PIN file my friend?

The repaint was found on flightsim.com. . .file name is amelia_earhart_pc-12_repaint.zip
The "pln" file is a flight plan file that is usable in either FSX or P3D. You load it in Flightplanner and it displays on the GPS.

I have that skin in my PC-12 hanger. I'd be interested in a copy of the Earhart PC-12 flightplan file.

Hiya,

You PC-12 lovers may be interested by the mod's made by Bert and myselve.

See topic: https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/509638-eadi-readouts-cleaned-up/
And topic: https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/523283-pc12-v2-bertautogyro-mods-combined-beta/?page=1

To get the latest update send Bert a PM (Privat Message) on the AVSIM forum.

My role was mainly modifying the EADI to get it more in line with the real-one.

My changes:
- Most of the autopilot-mode readouts locations are tweaked.Colour changed, armed mode = WHITE, captured mode = GREEN;
- DH readout colour changed to green;
- RA range extend to 2500 ft, when out of range "---" is shown;
- RA below 500 ft, will show 5 ft in/decrements instead of 10 ft;
- Compass_strip, added: N, E, W en S;
- Added ILS/APP mode, the sky/ground "square" will be reduced to give the Speed pointer, Glideslope and slip-indicator a black background to provide more contrast.
- EADI: DH marker, background made black
- EADI: IAS and VS can not be displayed at the same time now
- EADI: Fast/Slow pointer modified according real-life
- EADI: Roll pointer/scale redrawn for more sharpness
- Altimeter: Changed colour (more orange) FEET, pHa en IN MB changed to real text, remove the texture.
- Altimeter: When below 100 ft and 1000 ft, leading Zero('s) removed. Added real-life marks for altitudes below 10.000 ft.

Kind regards,

Marcel

Just to be aware of what I'm posting, this "Flight Plan" is nothing more than an "airport to airport" retracing of the stops that Amelia Rose made. There are no navaids included, if you require anything like that to make the plan more complete then that is up to you to modify as you see fit.

Thanks for posting. I'm satisfied with the default setup, but others may find the updates useful.

I figured you were planning something epic; that looks like it will be a lot of fun. I'm going to download that flight plan when I get home. Thanks.

No worries Marcel.
I've been spending a lot of time in the Alabeo and Carenado forums at avsim reading about the problems (and/or room for improvement)
with the stock versions and enjoying the mods made available (like dropping the GTN 650/750 in anything that will fit -- major improvement).
Please continue.

Thanks Falcon. Wishing you a great virtual flight indeed.

You mentioned using unlimited fuel. It looks like they gutted the interior to save weight but I was just thinking that not
having a 200 gallon fuel tank added to the [Fuel] section denies the fun challenge of taking off with that extra 1300 pounds. ;-)
But unlimited fuel does give you peace of mind.

I love the PC-12.
Just got it from Carenado this Christmas during their sale and can't stop flying it.
She's right at home especially in Orbx's LOWI - LIDA - LSGK regions, and fits in nicely with the executive AC of KPSP, KEGE and KTEX.
A true luxury 'swiss army knife' of aircraft.
I love that livery as well, and will have to check it out further.
Wishing you a great flight @falcon409 !

Yep, I considered that, but many of these will be started late evening (I babysit during the day and it's impossible to complete any of the legs in one sitting) and so unlimited fuel lets me sleep and then complete the flight once I wake up. The extra fuel on-board would be more in keeping with the actual configuration, but my luck something would cause fuel consumption to increase or fuel transfer would fail and I'd wake up to my plane sitting on the water somewhere.

LOL! I was thinking the latter would happen, waking up to the start menu after it crashed somewhere. Never thought about just leaving it running a few hours on it's own to make the mission authentic. Keep us updated please. I too want to fly a similar route indeed. I am curious to try it with Sky Force 3D and a weather engine and weather RADAR. Some of those legs could get nasty if using real world weather updates.
