flack kill distinguishing

i'm flying a halberstadt 2-seater campaign in july 1918. Coming back to base, I saw a lone camel at low altitude and dove down to attack. I put several rounds into him, and we had a kind or circling fight. Me and my gunner managed to put some rounds into him, and when he was turning to get inside me, he suddenly broke off and headed for the allied lines at low altitude. He wasn't smoking, but he was going slowly for a camel, because I was able to catch up to him. When I was getting close to shooting, a flak burst blew him out of the air, and I got the "You destroyed Camel" message at the top of the screen. When I quit the mission, I wasn't offered the chance to file a kill report. Also, in the pilot log, it said I had no claims. Is this because OFF distinguishes between a flak kill and a player kill, unlike CFS3? Is that why I got the "You destroyed" message, and didn't get any claims in the OFF system?

I' haven't shot down anything in P3 yet, and just want to make sure things are working like they're supposed to.

Perhaps the Luftstreitkräfte has disallowed your claim because you are flying an aircraft whose very existence is still secret - so secret that it has not yet been issued to the Schlachtstaffeln for use Over Flanders Fields?

Sounds like the computer knew YOU put one bullet into it, and it was destroyed so it told you. .. you destroyed it. You know you didn't, what's the problem ?

You'll get really pissed, when you fight with some *** for 20 minutes, and 3/4 of your ammo. He finally slowly circles down, on the way down your wingman puts one short burst into him. . . . .His kill .... you get nothing :wavey:

there's no problem, I'm just figuring out how it happened. It's perfectly fine that I didn't get the kill, just as long it was supposed to be that way, and OFF intentionaly did not give me a claim form.

btw, there's one small other problem: the AI seems never to fly at the height the mission is set at, but around 1000 to 2000 feet lower. Why?

There maybe various factors why you didn't get the claim - flak got it for one so maybe it deemed you didn't kill it afterall, don't worry?

No idea on the altitude but I really wouldn't worry about it it could be they didn't have time to get to the specified alt given the a/c performance or whatever. We are tweaking and improving AI code all the time, still so maybe it will help but it's not a major issue. It's not like Houston where your flight path is measured to the nearest meter in WW1 ;)

Speaking of flak. I was following about 75 feet behind my flight lead over enemy territory on a ground strike mission, concentrating on keeping position and WHOOM! Big puff of gray smoke and no more flight lead. I flew through the smoke cloud (no way to avoid it) and saw little bits and pieces falling to the earth.

Strange thing was that the hair on the back of my neck stood up and I got goosebumps on my arms as soon as the explosion happened. Now THAT's immersion! Bravo, Dev Team!:ernae:

Fantastic ns13jarhead - I know that feeling, just for a moment gives you a glimpse.. I saw something similar a while back but it was a wingman to my left -as I closed along side him, probably too close, slowly overtaking I saw a nearby burst to the front of him, then as I passed another crack and he sank flames and smoke engulfing him and I watched him fall 1000's of feet.

Not to worry,. . . being above them is good. . . . if you're outnumbered 6 to 1 . . you'll probably live another day

Normally They are Above You. . . and there's nowhere to hide then :kilroy:
