flattened trees

Hallo,

after some modding and updating, I see funny trees in my MAW instal. I know the problem is as old as the hills and has been discussed several times before, but I cannot find a thread and cannot remember what can cazse this. I vaguely remember it may have to do with multiple texture files (?).

Would be grateful for a hint.....

Hi Oki,
you still around? Good to see. :wavey:
it looks like a graphical rendering thing, more than a problem with a model. So as well as checking for duplicate names of textures within the Assets subfolders, have you made any changes to your configoverrides settings? At the moment I get a mild version of that effect of seeing the top boundary of the texture/model, using Johno's v3 trees, in a stock install.

Thanks! When my old XP-system collapsed, I could not do anything for a while and then hesitated to try again with WIN 7, I feared I would never get it going again. Fortunately, that turned out to be unfounded. I am happy to see that many of the oldtimers are still here and the add-ons library is really fantastic.

I did not find duplicate names in the assets folder or anywhere else and have also not modded the tree textures in my MAW instal at all. May be it has also to do with the video card (my sliders are all full open) ?

Anyway, its no big thing and not too difficult to ignore.

Actually Oki, it looks pretty normal to me. The shapes seem about right, but the scenery models are a bit less detailed than more recent add-ons.

Hi Oki :wavey:, good to see you posting again.

If you're taling about the flat tops on the trees it's to do with the 'scenerysheet01.dds' which is in the assests folder (I think, I don't have MAW installed) and the way the autogen trees are mapped to it. Some of the tree textures are below buildings etc. and the mapping is overlapping these. Maybe if you deleted a row of pixels above the trees it may help.

Yes, I am refering to the flat tops of the trees, which can be quite irritating in some views, by the way also depending on the location. Otherwise, I have no issues with the scenery or the shape and detail of the trees as such. Messing with the scenery sheet is new to me, but I try. I can always return to the original :blind:
Thanks for your thoughts and your friendly words.

Try using paint.net for this. It is able to open the .dds file and makes editing the alpha channel by deleting the pixels as Clive suggested really simple. All you have to do is select the pixels you think are causing the problem and press delete, then save the file.

Thanks, I do that. I have already used paint.net for other things, its a very nice tool for paint jobs.
