Fleet Air Arm has been released...

Good evening,

I just wanted to let you know that I finally finished the last three missions (Dakar, Mers-el-Kebir, and Taranto) for the Fleet Air Arm. and I shipped it off to my beta testers for the final run-through. I'll tweak a few missions here and there in the meantime within the campaign before I release it.

Good morning,

A few things I'd like to point out here...

1) It always pays to wait a day or two and go through the missions one more time. I found a couple things to fix already...and I'm sure that there will be more.

2) I need to make sure that people know that this campaign would not be nearly as good as it is without the work of Brunosk, Jean Bomber, and Tobob most of all. That was one of the major problems of this campaign...how to improve the scenery enough to make it truly outstanding. Well...now we have Dakar, Bermuda, and Taranto. Mission accomplished...lol

3) It always pays to have a beta tester who tells you what the problems are and is tough on you, even if sometimes you want to spit nails when they tell you that this mission or that mission doesn't work. I respect people who are honest and don't kiss my *ss when I ask them to be critical, and who provide feedback.

Good afternoon,

Once I got through the other North Atlantic missions, the others went through the checklist without fault, so I have decided to release the campaign, and let all of you nit-pick it to death, in a kind way. If you discover any problems, don't hesitate to call me out on it, it's part of the job.

This campaign is a real scenery hog, it's by far the most expansive I've done to this point. I will not be doing a campaign that is this ambitious and expansive again, it covers almost five years, and is a multi-theatre campaign, just like Heinkels!

A few notes, though...

First, I should point out that this campaign will not be an easy one. You're flying a Stringbag for the majority of the campaign, and as such, you're low and slow, I mean really low and slow, for most of these missions. The missions with the other aircraft are not really cakewalks, but your chance of survivability is considerably higher. For the missions involving the Swordfish, the missions will not be easy...if you stay low to the water, and by that I mean "on the deck," you stand a higher chance of survival, and this also allows you to strafe your targets on the way in.

Wagging the rudder will be something that's necessary for survival, it will allow you to dodge some of the flak. Jinking around with altitude and aileron as much as possible will also help you to survive heavy flak. As with other recent campaigns, many of the missions not involving transfer are done so you can fly as a wingman; that way your AI will attack, and you can quite literally play "follow the leader" and let them take some of the heat on your way in.

Please make sure you fly with the messages on, they will supply you with vital information to fly the missions properly.

Good luck, you're going to need it!

Thanks Rami, I know this was a big job and took a lot of dedication to get done. Looks like you've raised the bar again.

Thanks a lot!!!

A big thanks to you Rami!! I´ll get it running as soon as I can. I hope I can give you some feed back soon.

At this side of the world summer is coming and warmer days activities collide with PC time (besides family, job, end of year meetings, etc.)

Cheers, Discus

Klausreiss,

I'll have to speak to Sopwith about that, the link appears to be broken. He made a Vichy French skin for me for this campaign...I did not know at the time that it was not period-appropriate, but I still like it.

Maybe he'll be okay with uploading it here or at Lindsay's, but I'll have to check with him first.

Here's what she looks like...

Whew that bird is slow! And the flack is hell! :pop4:

Great job Rami! :salute: Thank you!!! I've been looking forward to this one ever since I heard about it.

Tobob,

Pat yourself on the back too...this campaign would not have been finished without you. :applause:

I was actually looking to see if the flak from the German, Italian, and French ships could somehow be reduced; kind of like what Pen32Win did with some of the Virtual Navy ships, but no dice there.

What ships are we talking about?

Here's something I noticed in the VN_FNS_Albatros dp file. The 3800 is the attack range when it will start shooting at you. The 1d1*120 is a random generated dice. This one will take 1 in 1 chance to take 120 points from the aircrafts system strength!

Churchills Deadly Decision

That is an interesting theory, and part of the new revisionist history trend ....so thanks for that link, Churchill like Roosevelt was a tyrant created by the war, and he wielded great power, not always wisely. In an interesting way, all of the major war leaders became the same sort of person and they all ordered terrible acts in the course of the war, the sad fact about the attack on the French fleet was that it was really unnecessary and need not have happened.
