Somebody with more WWII 'hysterical' reference than myself please tell me if (A) there was much difference between RAF and RN flight gear, i.e. headcover (cloth or leather?), jumpsuits (what colors?), boots, gloves, etc., and (B) how much difference there was between standard USN flight gear and RN FAA/BPF gear. Pretty sure i have the Mae West color figured out...yella for all. :kilroy:

I'm thinking of replacing a US_pilot figure with a BRI_pilot figure in a dp, but the textures i have are pretty much identical, so why bother, right?

It's no biggie, just a trivial curiosity...:wavey:
 
Oh, and here's Stanley (actually Wolfi's Japanese pilot with a make-over, if you need the tex's either nick them from the Master upload (Buddha's that is) or give me a holler.

Didn't someone release this pilot as a weapon, is so these texs might fit that?

JD, that figure is perfect for my RN/FAA plan, textures and all...i'd like to have it in a USN pilot too if possible. And as long as you got the design proggy online for this, can you do a couple of reversed figures of the same for USN and RN rear gunners? I'll concern myself with dp's later...

If you remember revev did repaints of the stock crewmembers for RAF and FAA. Bomber aircrew were similar to RAF Fighter pilots with the exception of Air Gunners who also had electrically heated suits that were similar in design to that shown on the TAG below.

This info came from the Osprey book on the FAA:

Just my 2 cents worth....The Swoedfish aircrews (even over the Med) would often wear their cream roll-neck jumpers (thats "sweater" to you:costumes:). Royal Marine pilots serving with the FAA often wore tan/ brown flying suits and flying caps while on service in the MTO. FAA aircrew operating from shore bases in the Med were fond of khaki shorts and shirts (sleeves rolled up, of course!)

Pggy-backing on Ravenna's answer, there is a big difference between what you are supposed to wear and what you do wear. I can't cite a source, but I remember reading somewhere that in the South Pacific some pilots often flew wearing shorts and skivy shirts (tee shirts to land lubbers.)
 
Alright now! ...that'll do! :costumes: ...i can appreciate the lighter side of the subject, but i'm tryin' to stay within the scope of regulation gear :mixedsmi:...gotta think about repainting some crew figures here and i can't even think about skivies and shorts... :icon_lol:
