Flight Mod Info

Barnstorm

"Molon Labe"
Since AVH.org :salute: is kaupt, I believe from what I have read here that the 1% AVH Mods are now housed here under the Warbirds tab ( I have been on extended leave). I am looking for the flight characteristics that AVH did their best to supply w/ their Mods: T.O./Lnd speed, flap setting, gear damage speed, ect. If that info is consolidated somewhere, I would appriciated a heads-up. BTW, after reviewing a .cfg file, it seems like most of that info can be found there--its just a matter of knowing where to look. Maybe a future SOH project?

Info

In many of the later 1% planes there was a csv file that contained the data used to compile the flight model. There are so many sources to chose from. I have tried to only use actual flight test data from military evaluations which take some digging to find. Specs on wing areas, degrees of movement, wing characteristics etc is a time consuming venture. Also, once you find all of these and enter in the data, there is no guarantee that the plane will fly correctly in game so adjustments are made to have the plane fly as close to actual data as possible. Making the flight model is a bit science and a bit feel.

...Hey Ted, just a quick thank you for the work you put into your flight models...
Not only do I enjoy them but its nice to know when there's something weird happening its for a reason...:medals:

And many of the sources give incorrect, incomplete or skewed information. Mathias wrote a very interesting post demolishing one of the sources which I know we've all looked at, namely the evaluations produced by RAE Farnborough - his point was that many of the aircraft were not always perfectly reconstructed out of salvaged parts, using incorrect fuel types, and flown by men who were not trained in their foibles, and were often simply trying to estimate the envelope rather than provide totally accurate data.

But it's better than nothing, and there've been some interesting surprises when the model has indeed mimicked the real-life foibles of the aircraft being modelled.

Of all the people who contribute parts of the puzzle, the one I find who deserves the most respect is the flight dynamics builder - and that's often the part that is the least visible.

I guess my initial idiea was to compile a aircraft datat sourse (online) for SOH member that contained the basic flight spec's, similar to what is found on the F2 panel, but maybe more detailed. I seem to have found the data in the aircraft.cfg files. My thought was to gleen certain data sets and reformat them in, maybe an Excel page. I am not sure about permissions from the original Mods creator or how much interest there is in such a resource.
