FlightSim.com is OFFICIALLY Offline...

Well this is going to be interesting! An active forum without an active file library seems to be the modern way, doesn't it?
The MSFS official forum has no file library and neither does Discord, while the flightsim.to MSFS library has no forum.
Will flightsim.com team up with flightsim.to, I wonder?

Is it FS.2 that bought flightsim.com? Speculation I guess, but still.

The new owners have told us that they are a group of long-time flightsim.com members from way back and they want to update the site so that it appeals to the current generation of simmers.
It sounds pretty reasonable to me, but it has been highly controversial since it was first announced over there a few months ago.

Of course it's controversial. They risk alienating their original user base.

Sooner or later, SOH will face the same issues IMHO. But if and when it is decided to cater for the current generation of simmers, it will be without me.

Flightsim.com apart from Avsim, Simviation and Avsimrus once was one of the most renowned Websites for Flightsim Libraries…
Without an active Library but only with an archived one, Flightsim.com will never be the same again… and of course they will lose their user bases… but i think that was what they were going for… they wanted that, now they have that…

R.I.P Flightsim.

Yeah, no real sense of loss for me. :indecisiveness:
I agree, they got what they wanted.
I decided to stay in Dinosaur Mode with FS2002 and FS2004 because they have always provided a LOT of bang for the buck.
With the new titles, there's a lot of bucks but not much bang. :kilroy: At least, IMO, its been a case of diminishing returns. If you have to invest in new hardware just to play ONE new title, something's wrong.

I think people are waking up to this. There are those of us who have posted over the years about how easy it is to dust off an old install CD or four and load the old stuff on a modern OS. It now runs incredibly well on modern hardware. Can I see my house in a much older sim? Well, yeah. Kinda.
Do I need to see my house in the first place? :indecisiveness: I don't "fly" over Iowa that much. Maybe if I'm jonesing for some basic GA stuff but for the most part, I try to avoid running into the terrain. Photo-real or not. :eagerness:

BTW, recently "the cloud" took its first big hit. One of the reasons I got into FS was that I didn't need an outside connection to play it. 😁

So, I think we're OK. There are people dusting off the older titles because the core game is complete and there are plenty of downloads available to customize it the way they want. I'm planning to stick around. :ernaehrung004: I enjoy seeing new posts in the FS2004 and CFS forums and while I'd like to see some activity for FS2002, it still does what I want.

They seem to want it to move to reddit style format which is one of the most soulless places ever.

Flightsim was and is about community and sharing. Not about up or down votes.

Just my two € cents worth: Those of you that made it to this place, enjoy your time here. It's not the same place and definitely not the same crowd. But I think we (the staff of SOH) can say without bragging, that we've been welcoming the ones of you that made it here.

Well, the new owners turned it into a clone of flightsim.to visually.

Their "respect for the legacy of flightsim.com" is obvious. (my pointing out "the emperor's new clothes" is what got me banned there, lol)

I think they'll only keep the most visited forums active, and it seems to me that their FS2004 and FSX forums have been the busiest ones for the last few years - it could be the older sims and racing/train sims forums which may have to go.

I agree with Priller...
Welcome to all that have found us & yes, we are, thankfully different! :wiggle:

it is always sad & a sense of loss to see a sim site close down. We have been part of that family for many years.

But ... life carries on. I'm sure that most of us have gone thru Flightsim's files & downloaded what interest us.
I'm not sure where the idea that they will becoming a clone of flightsim.to!!

Thankfully & hopefully, their library will still be around. I actually do not have an issue if it is an archived library.

Speaking from a FS2004 point of view, I look at other libraries, such as Avsim - when last have they had any new FS2004 uploads? & as mentioned above, there is always Simviation, Avsim, Avsimrus AND US!! :mixed-smiley-010::mixed-smiley-010:
Our 'needs' are very much covered here, PLUS we are the repository for Garry J Smith's Ford Tri-Motor software as well as the recent upload of all GAS addons for FS2004, FSX/P3D

We have had quite a bit of 'conspiracy' theories of the 'why's & wherefores' of the plans for Flightsim. - It's time to be graceful & wipe away our tears & wait to see what happens.

FYI, You can type a cent sign in most programs on Microsoft Windows using the Alt code for the cents sign, meaning a numeric code that you type while holding down the Alt key on your keyboard.

The alt code for this symbol is 0162, so you hold down the Alt key and type 0162 to enter a cent sign.
¢ ;)

In addition, if you have any of your own Flightsim.com downloads which are not on this site, you are more than welcome to upload them here.
