FS2004/FSX Supermarine Spiteful. The Supermarine Spiteful was a direct development of the Spitfire using a new laminar flow wing. Spiteful RB517, was the third production Spiteful XIV. The Spiteful was ordered into production as the Spiteful XIV and 150 of the aircraft were ordered. With the advent of jet propulsion, however, the future of high-performance fighters was clearly with the jet fighter, and so the order was later canceled with only a handful of Spitefuls built. Gmax model by A.F. Scrub.

Just did a few circuits over Shoreham in this Spiteful, ...
First impressions were as usual great, as to be expected from Mr Scrub. His latest Spitfires are outstanding. Visually a treat, especially the weathering!

Fired up the engine, just to be greeted by a karaoke version of an engine sound.
Exceptable for a quick test flight I thought, later replaced it with David C. Copley's Griffon sound, modified by 'Lawdog' and available here at SOH.

Switched on the lights, cannons were firing. They are attached to the strobe lights.
Went to the cfg, got rid of that.

Strobes? Why is there a non-existing strobe attached to the rudder?
Got rid of that!

OK, ready for take off...
Slight throttle, and oh my God, it's like a Formula 1 car! My cheeks would be behind my ears, such an acceleration! The tailwheel is off the ground after fifty metres, airbourne after 100.
Once airbourne I noticed how 'twitchy' this plane is, forget all previous joystick inputs you're used to! This needs a special treatment! Closing cowl flaps at over 200mph...
Looking from tower view I noticed the exhaust trails, they would be a reason to do an immediate emergency landing!
Got rid of that...

White smoke fx too! Why...?
Got rid of that...

Resume:
This is a great example of A.F. Scrubs' fantastic designs, looks great, nice usable cockpit, realistic paint job.

But this is a bit over the top..., definitaly a 'keeper' , but also a tweaker!
It certainly needs some work on the flight dynamics, sound & lighting, but that can easily be done!

Overall a great job, I wish I could do something like this, all I'm good at is criticizing!

Kind regards,

Stuart

After reading this.. I'm going to have a go with her. I like to tweek here and there, as well as utilise tweeks from others to improve on a model. AF Scrub's models are superb in alot of ways, he seems to have had a fancy for the late model Spitfires, and now, the Spiteful. Since no one else has done a Spiteful, (to the best of my knowledge) for FS9... I'm going to be rolling this one into the inspection hangar for a look-see.

I look forward to seeing the results of your tweaking gentlemen.

Sounds are easy enough to deal with Stuart, just do a search for "Griffon" over at Britsim.com.

Took the Spiteful for a hop... after removing all of the un-nessessary smoke and light effects. The initial flight model is very fast, but not un-realistic IMHO. I can still outrun this plane with my trusty ol' Sea Fury as well as the Tempest VI, by the Hanvey/Barry Aircraft Team. And those planes are pretty much spot on as far as performance. I did tone down the aileron and rudder effectiveness response times as well as the elevator effectiveness. Now it no longer spins like a MiG-21 when you roll it. I have to hand it to Scrubby, the visual model is very nice, and the prop blur is excellent.

Does any one know if the oxygen feed and level gauges are supposed to work, on the upper left-hand corner of the 2D panel?

I adopted and renamed the .air file from A.F Scrub's great Spitfire Mk.XVIII.
Works for me spot on, and is a delight to fly now.
It might not be realistic, but I wouldn't know what realistic is in the first place!
It's alright to transfer all the data found on paper about an aircraft into FS, but how close to reality is the actual result?
I like to enjoy a beautifully modelled and textured plane with a great sound and great flight characteristics.
That's what I now have.
Happy flying...
Stuart

Stuart

I just bought Airwrench, The Rolls Royce Griffon 74 manual, and am now chatting with a Firefly pilot in Canada, and a mechanic in Australia. That's how serious I am about making my model fly as accurate as possible. That should help me eh? lol

That shows in the quality of your work Doug!

If I had such resources available, then maybe I would put more effort in learning more about FS development. :mixedsmi:
