Flying or Combat which is most Dangerous

I took off in a Strutter for a quick re familiarisation flight prior to flying it on missions.

Took off and detected a distinct lurch just before leaving the ground. Flew about and then went to external view to enjoy the graphics etc and found low and behold no undercarriage!

I could only deduce that the lurch on take off was caused by the aircraft and wheels parting company. Luck I can use external views or I would never have known!

By good luck rather than good managment I got back down but spent time with Nurse Gladys!

Now I ask was this sabotage, a reackless mole hill, or us poor aviators being supplied sub standard equipment by the Off team!

Flying is now more dangerous than the combat!:wavey:

Interesting Wildfowler.. the only time I get to take off is on a mission/campaign..not on quick combat.. or do you just abort a mission/campaign when you've had enough..:wiggle:

Is there a magic button that 'enables' take offs in the quick combat domain.. I always attempt to land the plane after exercise (one of my pretensions: takeoffs are optional, landings are not!) ..

Is there another magic button which allows such 'problems' or are they random kickins which are part of the OFF appeal?:kilroy:

If you want to take off in Quick Combat it's easy to do. You will notice that the quick Combat or Free Flight in OFF Manager does not allow for a runway start. However, just set up your Flight in OFF manager and go fly it.

You then get to the screen with the pilot sculking having a fag behind some crates were the CO cannot see!:costumes:

Go into the quick combat options menu on the left just as you would in CFS3 select location, select runway, start. You can alter all the parameters here before you fly such as aircraft weather etc.

As to the damage there is no magic button to set up random failures but I do believe the damage modelling is very well done so an extra vicious bump on take off could wreck your gear. Also I know others here have experienced as have I engine failure at certain times.

To para-phrase Allen Funt, 'when you least expect it, you're elected' your engine will give up on you at 9000 feet. Mechanical and Fuel delivery problems were not strangers to the 1917 aviator.
To that end, it's advisable you intentionally develop engine trouble, on whichever bird you intend to soldier with.
When you have NO choice, is not the time, to discover your optimum glide angle. :d

QC - On the QC main menu page you can select the type of flight (Free Flight, Combat, Turkey Shoot etc). Also, to the lower right of the screen is another selection (Field, 5000, 1000 etc).

Just select Field and you'll find yourself on the airfield with engine stopped. Hit E to start the engine and increase RPM (keyboard 1 Min to 0 Max) and away you go.

In Campaign mode when you accept the mission and 'go to the field' you'll find the same.

Thanks guys, magic buttons located, so now I can practice taking off with 6 Fokkers circling the field.. great..:ernae:

BTW I've started to get picky.. I dont mind being shot down.. but not from 300 -800 plus yards .. and I dont mind being shot down with 10 hits while I've put 200 and more into some turkey and its still flying around?? ... I've come in with 25-30% hit stats too many times with aircraft shot down' NONE.. This AI is getting it easy:banghead:!

Don't worry Wehyam, P3 sorts this out nicely. I can tell you, there is no sniping, and the AI is not as 'hard' as far as the DM goes. But kills are harder to get and the AI is a LOT smarter.

OvS.. I'm just whining..
I'd still like to know what the ai is 'thinking'.. and how it does.. :173go1:
It flies neater than I do but there's room for cleverer evasive tactics.. and I've never noticed two of them 'ganging' up to fix me.. I'd also like it if one could somehow get to work with a wingman.. which has just made me think.. suppose next time I act as wingman to one of our AI.. is it possible? ..

I think when I've learnt to fly I'm going to have to get on online..

Along with all the other details that will affect your pilots

there is the dreaded gound fire/flak. Bletchley did a fair bit of research and found that settings for OFF are for the most part, "Easy" and "Rookie" settings. It did get worse in late 1918. If you like, I could forward his research stuff.

And I'd like to win the lottery, and I wish I was 23 again

I think chances are better, for either one of mine, than yours :ernae:

Might as well find out now, as later..... The CFS3 Server is no longer in service. Plug was pulled by the Lads at Mickysoft, as a cost cutter, bout a year back.
Unless you're refering to the 'Boys of 60th Squadron' they fly 3 or 4 times a week. Co-op missions . . a blast. But not what people normally think of, as 'online':isadizzy:
