.... good in-flight video of two different D.vII's. Silver one (ORA) has Mercedes and the Blue (GWFM) a Ranger engine.

Are we looking at the 'Same' bird, or just a mirror image ?
http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=6145

Yup, same bird, it is the DVII replica owned by the Great War Flying Museum in Brampton. It crashed at an airshow in Geneseo NY in 2007, and is currently being rebuilt in the hangar at Brampton. I saw it there at Christmas - coming along very nicely. They are going to finish it in the markings of Richard Kraut when he was at Ja63, using 4-colour lozenge.

Had never seen much of the D VII in flight before - very impressive; thank you, WomenFly2!
I liked especially the views from behind, when it was rolling, as you don't see them from that angle so often, and it gives you a closer feel to piloting it yourself.
Combined with this music, it caused a "dramatic emotion" in heart and belly - I wouldn't have liked to get attacked by this plane.

And I just thought: the nowadays pilots in the air shows are not allowed to do extreme stunts, so we never see, how they would have been in a fight.
And the average war pilot might also not have dared to get his plane to the very edge of performance.
So, the difference between an average pilot and an ace might not have depended firstly on flying the better plane, but how far he would dare to drive his "missus".

Thanks a lot, and keep them coming.

Most aces I've read about all say that the deciding factors in air combat were usually who saw who first and who was the better shot.

Just a comment on the video ...

... the Silver colored D.vII is from Rhinebeck, NY (ORA).

... the Blue and Red colored D.vII is from Great War Flying Museum, Brampton England (GWFM) as Mr. Shredward stated in his reply.

The ORA has an original Mercedes engine that actually powered a plane in combat during the war ... priceless!

The GWFM has a modern Ranger engine.

They are built and fly very different, the ORA D.vII would be as it was in WW 1.

Cheers,

P.S. .... notice the nose high, or tail down, attitude these planes fly in. Also the amount of down elevator being used.

2 womenfly2: Splendid aircraft, thank you for this video!

Ken Cassens used to hang that ORA D7 on it's prop. That was something to see!!!

I feel your pain ......YouTube is limited in resolution, also the quality of the video from the camera its uploaded from. There are some on Higher resolution but your Internet connection is really the main quality control.
