Hey All,

This ought to be an interesting race with the way the cars are distributed through the field and it'll be hot an slick. Go 48!

A few vaguely related comments.

1) Another win by Kyle yesterday and a second by Keselowski. Brad still has a big lead in the Nationwide points. Go Brad!

2) Danica - ran a nice race till she was wrecked from behind through no fault of her own. She has so much to learn - it was cute how after she was wrecked she asked her CC over the radio "What do I do now?" He said "Bring it into the pits" Like Doh! Needless to say despite how much she doesn't know she is a driver who has fully earned the right to race in the Nationwide series.

3) Reutimann - on a NASCAR pre-race show it was revealed that Reutimann's CC told him directly - apparently over the radio - to go wreck Kyle Busch or he would be looking for a new CC for this weeks race! No doubt NASCAR heard that radio transmission and still no penalties of any kind. Seems NASCAR has had enough of the antics of the Gibbs drivers (excepting Joey) as well. Message sent in capital letters!

4)Daveroo said...
they called him the intimidator not because he taught "lessons" which taught good driving skill but rather lessons which taught a driver "dont mess with dale"

Well the one thing about dale is you either loved him or you hated him. If you hated him of course he was a "dirty" driver.

That aside the point I wanted to make is that this quote says exactly what NASCAR is all about. The series is not about race clean keeping cars off each other and lets see who can go fastest or who can follow another driver close enough to make him make a mistake. If you want that kind of racing go watch F1 where you will see that as well as have certainty about which drivers will finish in front of each other since team orders are a "legitimate" part of F1. NASCAR is a contact sport and was mean't to be so - this fundamentally means that drivers have to sort out who they are in terms of driving style and how they are going to race each other. The unwritten rules are as important as the written rules and add that extra human dimension to racing which simply makes NASCAR racing an even better sport.

And those capital letters are that "we (NASCAR) can do anything we want, no matter how inconsistent we are" ....

Has any one of the 12 chasers, besides the 48, not either pulled a bonehead move, or crashed, or blew up, so far during this "chase" season? Does it seem really silly now that anyone would have questioned whether or not the 48 would win #5 this year?

PRB,
As you said, with all the chasers self-destructing in one form or another, it definitely looks like 5 in a row for the #48 team....

Does it seem really silly now that anyone would have questioned whether or not the 48 would win #5 this year?

absolutely not with nascar squarley on his side...how bout that phantom 'debris caution' with a few laps remaining and Bowyer leading the race..........nastycar must hate Bowyer for some reason:icon_lol:

jimmie has it sewed up...when they docked the 33 for 150 points because of 1/10000ths of an inch...thats all you need to know..

(however having vented my spleen....you have to be good to do what the 48 does year in and year out...and he is good...too good.)

Hey All,

Don't know if anyone here has ever noticed but I'm kind of a fan of the 48 team.

That said there are four things which certainly do concern me about the 48's chances of a fifth title.

1) Kevin Harvick - yes he has strooed up but it always seems to be early in the race so by the end he is always near the top. This is not a good sign.

2) Denny Hamlin - he is keeping his mouth shut and focusing on driving - I much prefer it when these other drivers let their ego's take their eyes off the prize. So far Hamlin seems to be focused. This is not a good sign.

3) Don't like seeing Chad not always make the perfect call on pit road and Jimmy is still not getting good restarts. His cars just don't seem to have the "scat" on the restarts the toyotas do. Also Jimmie's crew has been getting outperformed in the pits week after week - not by alot but it is costing him positions.

4) Talledega! Nuff said.

So there is NO guarantee that Jimmie will get 5 and the odds are probably still against it.

Couple other comments.

1) That was not a phantom debris caution - there was debris on the track - they showed it. Was it in the racing groove(s) - no - but it was on the track up near (against) the wall.

2) NASCAR has often been inconsistent in rules application over the years. The rulings that are unfair are when they treat two drivers/owners/manyfacturers differently for the same infraction against the same background circumstances and policy regime. If the policy environment the drivers race under changes like this year's have at it and basically settle your differences on the track situation then the enforcement of rules is going to be different and should be. The people who argue that well 5 years ago the same situation happened and NASCAR ruled different - where is the consistency? Arguing for that kind of consistency is just plain bogus. Times change, circumstances change, rules interpretations change - get over it. I don't remember Denny getting a penalty for backing into Harvick a couple weeks ago.

On to Charlotte.

Compared to the Bathurst 1000 (I'm biased!) run this past weekend the entire NASCAR season has been a crashing bore, and I'm not a rabid V8 Supercar fan either.
:jump:

Nice to see Smoke win

yep..maybe he can catch Jimmie..

and Boyer going by JJ for second, lol

Who's The Sorry-Ass? Jimmie Johnson, Clint Bowyer Have Humorous Exchange

Oct 10 8:01p by Jeff Gluck
Clint Bowyer was in the middle of a post-race interview when Jimmie Johnson entered the room, spotted Bowyer and blurted out, "Sorry-ass!"
Bowyer looked surprised and paused.
What did Johnson just say?
"I just called you a sorry-ass," Johnson said, chuckling.
Johnson, the Chase points leader, was jokingly miffed that Bowyer passed him for second in the final laps of Sunday's race at Auto Club Speedway.
The Hendrick Motorsports driver had restarted alongside Tony Stewart with just two laps remaining, and it looked as if Johnson and Stewart would finish 1-2, in some order.
But Bowyer saw Johnson trying to race Stewart and simply drove underneath the 48 car, costing Johnson five valuable points in the quest for his fifth straight championship.
"As I was busy focused on (Stewart), this sorry-ass next to me drove inside of me and did a good job of getting the second spot," Johnson said.
"It was pretty easy," Bowyer retorted. "I drove right under you. Easy as it's ever been to pass you."
Replied Johnson with a laugh: "I guess I might have been the sorry-ass then."
In all seriousness, Johnson said he "did all that I could" on the last restart and was pleased with a third-place finish – which gives him a 36-point lead over Denny Hamlin headed into the final six races.
As he discussed over the team radio with crew chief Chad Knaus earlier in the race, it was important to Johnson just to finish in the top five.
"We, as a team, have tried to be smart about things," Johnson said. "The company motto is 'top fives.' The races we show up to and we're like 'We have to win,' we honestly make a lot of mistakes – including myself.
"The whole thought process of being in the top five was to have everyone stay calm and in control."
