Fontana

Hey All,

Fontana - talk about a mixed bag. Overall pretty boring. Stewart wins in a rain shortened - first ever at Fontana - race continuing his hot streak. The question is - will he be there at the end?

My Guys...

Jimmie blew an oil line or some such on the last caution and so Thank God for the rain or he would have finished way worse! Two breaks in one week - NASCAR giving his points, crew chief and car chief back and then the rain! Maybe this year will be the year of the sixpack!

The Harv is second in the points and consistent.

The Kes 16th and not a real great day although he had a good car.

The results...

I watched qualifying on SPEED.
The surface looked horribly uneven, cars bouncing around like a WRC stage.
:kilroy:

Always boring, if it doesn't rain, it's a fuel mileage race. No action, stupid Bruton Smith cookie-cutter track. Didn't even bother to watch even though the JGR cars always do well there. My track this weekend, but like Bristol, NASCAR has ruined it by repaving and making it a two-groove track. Ergo the drivers can race for position and don't have to mix it up trying to get that one good groove. Ticket prices are out of site too. May opt for the "real" stock series race, the Truck race on Saturday, pay $20.00 and sit where ever I like. Don't have to get my ticket until race day either.

NASCAR has to get the word, no old style redneck like me is going to pay exorbitant prices for a two-groove short-track race, look at Bristol, half empty. It's not the fuel prices NASCAR, it's the high ticket prices and boring racing that is emptying your stands of fans.

I plan on going to the Richmond Nationwide race Friday evening, April 27. $35.00, no crowd, and sit anywhere. Cup race Saturday night, I'll be back in Ringgold watching on TV.

cassie,i thought it was kind of amusing that on the sunday morning show...with "imma race car driver" kenny wallace and crew, when they started talking about bristol, they all said it was about fans not wanting to pay gas prices and hotel/motel prices...yet when you looked at the fan sites when smith announced he was thinking of reverting back to "pre- 2007" conditions..the fans were for it...did nascar "get to them"?,the guys on the show made a big deal about "Jr" saying he was against it and then said they would tell us why after the break...then came back and said..jr says no to changing the track "just because"...and then they talked about changing the tires and the only guy there with enough backbone to speak out on tv...kyle petty...said BS they tried tires and other things already...they ruined the track when they changed it...and they need to put it back...then they just went to Mcrenyonlds and wallace....stayed off petty until they changed the subject...i also liked when petty spoke out against the "old men" who run the penalties appeals boards...he said they were all old men who have been away from the sport for many years and need to be removed..put new guys in who understand the sport today....he got shut up over that too...

Yeh if it had been anyone else but Johnsons team the penalties would not have been reversed.Back when he won his championships they were cheating like a dog also but never got caught, except the time the rear of the car was set to ride high in the race and could lower the deck lid and spoiler with hydrolics after the race before inspection.

Hey All,

Jimmie and Chad are Saints - everybody knows that! :bump:

The reason Bristol is boring is because what people want to see is not racing but drivers getting mad at each other, shoving each out of the way and throwing helmets and such. That is what people want to see at Bristol. A one to one and half groove track gives exactly that while a wide open two groove track is just round and round and no human excitement/drama. Drivers prefer the ability to race each other not fight each other but fans want it the other way around.

NO different at Daytona/Talledega - it's all about the closeness of the racing just waiting for the "big one". Many fans want emotion and mayhem not racing.

Most of the mile and a half tracks are just clean races till the end when they become fuel economy races.

I personally don't mind a mixture.
