For Allen...Baltimore testing results

Allen,

Good evening. Sorry about the delay...but events in Massachusetts have been a little chaotic lately. I put the Baltimore through her paces, and I wanted to give you a full report.

I fixed the airfile and .cfg files. The Baltmore was a good performer in the Desert...top speed of about 300mph, and plenty of power; two 14-cylinder Wright Cyclones of 1,600+ horsepower will provide that. The cylinder displacement, horsepower, compression ratio, and RPM settings are now correct, as well as the aircraft's empty weight, down to 15,200 lib. I also made her a bit more sluggish on the aileron and rudder controls...nothing too much, but she feels a bit more like a twin bomber.

As far as other aspects...framerates are now solid, even in large formations. There are three other suggestions I have...first, see if Kelti can do some prop textures for you...second, see if Morton would be willing to do a 2d panel, perhaps using the .pdf I sent you.

And lastly, the only "sting" she has in her present configuration is the rear-facing turret. The Baltimore had a much bigger stinger than that. She had...

4 .303-inch machine guns in the wings. (Two per wing)
2 .303 inch machine guns in the rear turret.
2 .303 inch ventral machine guns
Up to 4 .303 inch rearward-firing machine guns (I can't get more specific info than that)

Let me know if you want me to send you back the files!

I know things have not been well so I did move on to some more CS aircraft.

I wasn't planing to mess with the .air or aircraft.cfg. Just the model, DP and fix the wrong damage texture it has for the wings. It would prob be good to send me the files.

The Ammorment seems to change from each mark/version. The MARTIN_BALTIMORE.htm in the doc folder show Mk.V. This means it would have 4 .50 cals in the wing and 2 .50 cals in the turrent.

Most of the Baltimores were done under Lend-Lease. Baltimore B. IIIa is only 2 .50 cals in the turrent (as it is now). The Baltimore B. IV added 4 .303 to the wing and the Baltimore B. V Upgraded to two 1,700 hp engines and 4 .50 cals in the wing.

I'll set it up as Baltimore B. V as listed in the MARTIN_BALTIMORE.htm/read me.

Got the files. I have no idea how much ammo the wing .50 cals had. Looked over the net and PDF you sent me as well. The orig didn't have wing guns as well.

Back in February, I was working on a conversion of the Giuli Baltimore Mk5. I was having trouble and asked for help. I was sent a download that contained RAF versions of the Mk2, Mk3, and Mk5 with a new panel and DPS. The correct armament is there. The MK 3 has the Boulton Paul turret (303).

I was going to ask your help, because the turret is fired by the main gun switch, and the front guns by the cannon switch. I would like these reversed.

I think you could get some ideas from this conversion for your project. I will gladly sent you these files, if they will be of any help? Please let me know if you would like them?

Rami had me work on the Martin Baltimore Mk V. http://simviation.com/cfs2aircraft96.htm This one has is more CFS2 friendly. I got it into gMax so I can change the model as needed.

Yes the MK 3 has the Boulton Paul turret and the MK 3a is uses a Martin made twin .50 cal turret. Any thing would help.

Allen,

I haven't been able to nail down specific info on ammo loads, but the two machine guns were located in each wing between the landing light and nacelle. Given typical ammo loads of the period, I would surmise that the aircraft probably had 200-300 rounds per wing gun, and at least that many for the turret.

To do this, you can use Oldwheat's gun tubes.

The Giuli Baltimore and the one I'm working on are not the same but I'll look at it and see of any thing from it can be usefull.
