For CFS3: Win 7 > Win 10?

Win 7 or Win 10?

Think I know the answer, but wanted to formally ask to get feedback.

Just got a new (to me) machine for playing CFS3.

It's got 10 on it now.

I can reload with 7 (but may or may not be able to go back to 10 if I do).

Thoughts?

Thanks all!

For me go with win10 because with 7 many objects, buildings etc dont work with Ankors shader package, I guess it's a direct X thing. w10 uses dx12 and w7 not sure may be 10?

I'm running Win10 and have been for some time: CFS3 runs fine, just avoid Microsoft's OS security safeguards and install CFS3 outside the Program Files (x86) location where the installer otherwise installs it by default. Somewhere like C:\CFS3 instead.

There are some extra steps to get it running in Win10, so there's a sticky thread above with these listed.

You'll need the June 2010 DirectX 9.0c runtime installed whether you use Win10 or Win7.

Run Win 7 64 bit and have no problems with any of my CFS3 installs. Some of my sims won't work with Win 10 so i recommend Win7 hands down for trouble free installs. Just my opinion .

Both now suffer from a decision by M$ to kill the ability of a program to trigger the CD drive to read from the disc. It was done to prevent a security hole, but the side effect is that it prevents using any older games that requires access to the CD as a validity check prior to playing. It was one of the reasons that I delayed updating to Win 10 when it only effected that OS, but eventually they rolled it back to Win 7 as well through their monthly security patches.

I didn't know the CD security check had been dropped in Win 7, thanks for that Andy!

I'm running Win7 Pro, so that's the reason this sim won't run!!! I have tried every trick I know, from the UAC, admin rights, running it in a folder on C drive and not in Programs86, it will run a couple of times, then it will never restart, get that stupid message that it won't run and Windows is searching for a solution to your problem. And MS is the stinking problem!!!!!:banghead:

that's why you need the unmentionable or dl from old-games.com or elsewhere so you don't need the CD.

I'll give that one more try, but didn't have much luck before. I wonder if starting CFS3 with that the first time it is run will make any difference?
