:applause: OH Yea!! :icon_lol: :icon_lol:

You earn yourself a set of hobbit wings!!
(You know the ones that are all burnt and bent..)
And there is much Rejoicing!!:applause:

Thanks my friend I do enjoy seeing pieces of aircraft raining down upon the ground..:icon_lol:

Hey, David, that's pretty good. Do the models allow for flying then one or more engines fall off, now? (not sure).

Has got a realistic side to it: may be a technique crews used to save ships from having the spar burnt through (fire systems then couldn't cope with massive ones, war damage, etc).

May have heard, there was supposed to be a civil DC6 over Port Phillip bay (Melbourne), with uncontrolled engine fire. Pilot shook it off over the bay (presume roller-coaster type manouvres) and returned to Essendon with all, safely. Engine probably still resides down there.

Pilot was said to be Keith Hants, a surviving Lancaster pilot. Makes me think they did things like that in war. Anything to get back, would guess.

So, would be nice if all the multi-models had that capability....only when they get hot/soft enough! Or pull the 'Jettison' cable:icon_lol:

Hi, certainly the Me410 shown is modelled as flying for a while with one engine shot off. I don't recall if it was sustainable or if it slowly lost altiitude and crashed.

I think there are one or two other planes (but not many) that have damage modelling that allows an engine to drop off - maybe a 110? But not many of the modellers build in this feature it appears.

However I stand to be corrected :icon_lol:

Oh by the way, it is a Firepower aircraft so maybe other Firepower aircraft exhibit this feature? Another twin engined plane they built was the ta-154 Moskito (IIRC)?

Umm stock Cfs3 aircraft have this feature also, but its rare to see it happen(without blowing up), I've seen it in shot up mode:icon_lol:

You can notice it on the P-38, Mosquito,Etc.

Wow, I've never seen it on the Mossy or the P-38 :icon_eek:. No doubt a rummage through the xdp files would show the damage effect that triggers the engine falling off.

XDP Damage Boxes

I see that the Me 410 has specific damage boxes for each engine on the wing.

<Box ID="damagebox_engine1" Parent="damagebox_r_wing">
<BoxMap SystemID="engine_two" Probability="85" Points="201"/>
<BoxMap SystemID="coolant_reservoir" Probability="5" Points="50"/>
<BoxMap SystemID="right_gear" Probability="10" Points="260"/>
</Box>

The damage Effects are found further down.
<System ID="engine_one" Name="Engine One">
<Threshold Level="01" Effect="Library" Parameter="Smoke_Burst_a_Small_2" Location="emitter_damage_engine_0L"/>
<Threshold Level="15" Effect="Library" Parameter="Smoke_Burst_a_Small_3" Location="emitter_damage_engine_0L"/>
<Threshold Level="25" Effect="Library" Parameter="fx_sparkhit_a_small" Location="emitter_damage_engine_0L"/>
<Threshold Level="25" Effect="Library" Parameter="fx_engfire_s" Location="emitter_damage_engine_0L"/>
<Threshold Level="50" Effect="Library" Parameter="fx_engfire_m" Location="emitter_damage_engine_0L"/>
<Threshold Level="50" Effect="Library" Parameter="fx_sparkhit_a_small" Location="emitter_damage_engine_0L"/>
<Threshold Level="75" Effect="Library" Parameter="fx_engfire_l" Location="emitter_damage_engine_0"/>
<Threshold Level="75" Effect="Library" Parameter="fx_sparkhit_a_small" Location="emitter_damage_engine_0L"/>
<Threshold Level="75" Effect="Fire" Parameter="fx_A_Fuel_Swell_m" Location="emitter_damage_engine_0L"/>
<Threshold Level="100" Effect="Library" Parameter="fx_airexpl_m" Location="emitter_damage_engine_0L"/>
<Threshold Level="100" Effect="Library" Parameter="fx_engfire_l" Location="emitter_damage_engine_0"/>
<Threshold Level="100" Effect="Break" Parameter="" Location=""/>

But it isn't obvious to me which of the effects triggers the engine to drop off? Presumably at threshold level 100. Perhaps it is an animation built in GMax when modelling the aircraft?

I think you just have to have two engines listed with corresponding damage boxes and system ID's. I have seen aircraft with two engines and only "engine_one" in the fuselage damage box. Also, I believe there has to be two engines in the M3D. So, everything has to jive together.

What is really annoying is that if the "oil_reservoir" and "coolant_reservoir" get taken out with one of the engines, the other will fail when they run out. I seem to remember this topic coming up several years ago and someone experimenting with multi reservoirs. One engine would be normal and the other had "oil_reservoir_1" or something like that. I don't remember what the outcome was.
