For Parky: OvS's new rig

Parky,

Here's the rig...

I had to alter the list as some of the products like the LCD and GPU are not stocked or discontinued. I called referencing the GPU and the sales person said it's been on back-order for over a month. So I went with the XFX version of the same card... very slight difference.

But other than that... I'm $53 over budget, including a new HD. :) I should be able to pilot the Space Shuttle with this thing, and it says I can overclock it to 4 GHz. I just have to get a better cooling fan. But that can wait.

Thanks for your help. I can't wait to have it at the door. The 24" screen is going to be fun to say the least. :)

I saved a ton on instant rebates, and another $90 coming to me in mail-in rebates. :) I love Newegg!!

What OS are you going to use? looks like an impressive system, that i7 will be good for a few generations to come.

Gotta' love the core clock on that Black Edition 260......666mhz (I'm scared......hold me....lol)

If you're building it yourself, I'd thow the PSU in first, and remember your cpu and mobo power cables can be run underneath the motherboard and looped over the top edge and right side during motherboard installation. They should reach. Much neater that way. That PSU has a ton of cables. Pull only the ones you need from the bundle if you're able, and make sure you have some nylon ties lying around. Nothing worse than a big mess of untidy cables to ruin the look of a nice, shiny new tower.

Looks like you're OFF to the races. Wouldn't even worry about overclocking it for now. Should be up to snuff at stock speeds, but I'd hazard a guess you could push it over 3Ghz easily with the stock Intel sink and fan. Just don't push your RAM voltage over 1.65....it can lead to problems on that board. Shouldn't have to....even to get it running at 1600. I believe it'll default to 1333 via SPD though. Should be a setting on the board for EPP. Try that rather than set the timings manually.

I think you'll be pleased with this rig. Huge upgrade from what you have now. Can't wait to hear your initial impressions.

Thanks for keepin' us up to speed, OvS.

Cheers,

Parky

No Parky,

Thank you! :woot::woot::woot:

This is an exciting day for me... I honestly did not expect that we were going to release today. ;) .... or maybe I did. LOL!!!!

Enjoy Phase3... you will for sure.

OvS

Sounds great OVS, only you've now made it impossible

for me NOT to upgrade. Only 1 thing I can add, as I'm sure Parky would, or has already. COOLING, COOLING, COOLING as HEAT is your only new enemy, ( other than the krumpets!) I have a Coolermaster and with everything loaded, four fans and a flow through that almost sucks in my hair :}

Cheers,

750W PSUs... man. Last time I had a desktop a 500 was the heavyweight. That PSU you got would blow my generator out here!! haha Looks awesome though man! NewEgg is addicting!

I should be good, I needed a new laptop this past late summer and got one of the Sager NP8660 (M860TU) 15", 4gb ram (doesn't help much in XP though ), Nvidia 9800m GT 512mb lappys and it runs P2 silky smoothe. Believe it or not, it stays relatively cool too, with one fan!

I thought the Space Shuttle was powered by a 286 or something? Seriously, sounds like a great rig!

The Antec 900 is a wind tunnel. Thermal issues won't be a concern....unless the ambient room temperature allows for baking bread on the coffee table.

I'm staying with XP SP3. I don't see the reason to upgrade because I still want to run a lot of my old software and games.

I can't wait to see BIA in full detail... also COD4 and 5 as well. I thought I was done gaming for a while but this rig will change that for sure. LOL!

I may have to buy a copy of XP before they disappear. So far, I've gotten by with the restore disks from Dell, but if I build my own at some point, they won't be any good. I am hearing good things about Win7 (Mohave?) regarding speed. Some beta testers are saying that speed is more like XP, and a great improvement over Vista.

The only thing I worry about is that it's not backwards compatible, which seems to be the case with M$.

They put out these new OS's and just expect everyone to run out and buy all new versions of everything they own. I hope they learned from the mistakes/headaches that Vista created. It HAS to be backwards compatible... no and, if or but's about it.

Backward compatibility is always a concern with new hardware. And, it's pretty much a crap shoot. You just gotta upgrade after awhile and hope for the best.

I agree, but having to replace everything really sucks. I still enjoying popping in an old game or two that are 6 years old and play them again. With Vista... forget it. I wish they wouldn't do that to us.

I've still got my HP XL753 that I bought in 2000. It runs Windows ME and RB3D runs great on it. It's the only reason I keep the thing.

I guess the important question is...how does P3 work on your new rig. Got all the sliders to max?

Ordered mine on Wednesday and it supposedly shipped the same day; hoping beyond hope that it arrives either today or tomorrow (though not at all likely) before I have to be out on the road for 11 days and won't have a chance to take 'er for a test run!
