Canion or others,

I am working on a project I'm keeping under tight security right now, but one of the missions involves the destruction of a railway bridge and tunnel, as well as other missions involving U-boat pens at Brest and Bergen, and attacking V-1 and V-2 rocket and manufacturing sites.

I would like to use the bridges and tunnels in your ETO_Inf_package I, but am befuddled as to how the pieces fit together properly. Would you happen to have the layouts for these bridges in their completed form that would give me some assistance?

I'm specifically referencing the picture BigBridged12, something like that would do nicely. Also, this campaign will require the destruction of a viaduct, so those layouts will come in handy as well.

The two hint words for this campaign are Bellicose and Paravane. :jump:

Thanks,

Kdriver,

A couple of those missions are in the "Tirpitz missions" pack...I know Catechism is, and I think the other was Goodwood. And thanks for the layout!

Catechism was the sinking of the Tirpitz in Tromso Fjord by 617 and 9 Squadron Lancasters - I can't see that one in the Tirpitz pack.

Kdriver,

It's the escort mission, there isn't a bomber one. That's the bugaboo with this project, there isn't a decent freeware multi-lod Lanc for player use. The best solution is to use Bismarck13 / Tango Romeo's as AI, and use the FS conversion in the archives as the player aircraft only via a hand-edit. I can't use the multi-lod ones I have, because they're part of a payware add-on.

When I did Mosquito Squadron and Mustang Vs Fw-190, I was able to use entirely freeware components in the campaign, and got permission to use the missions for the project with the blessing of Just Flight. However, as nice as Richard Slater (RAS_JF) is, I just don't think he would be too keen on me releasing payware products without any authorization. If they were to make it freeware, well, as they say, that's a horse of a different color.

Good morning,

I know you're busy with Leningrad and all, (that's turning out to be a monster, isn't it) but I was wondering if you could throw in a quick fix for me in Italy. I'm working on a freeware version of DamBusters with help from sc7500, and am going to add missions to Peenemunde and "Operation Bellicose," which was a "Frantic-esque" shuttle bombing mission the British undertook in 1943. The attack on Friedrichshafen is a cinch, because Ettico did as one of his EuroTargets the Maybach engine plant at that location, which can double for the Zeppelin works.

Additionally, Achim already did an aerodrome for me at Blida, Algeria, so that gives a base of destination for the Lancasters. It is on the return leg that we have our little problem. I'm going to follow history and have the British Lancasters attack the Italian naval base at La Spezia. And it is here that we have our issue...

Building U-boat pens at Bergen and Brest is going to be a lot of fun, though at least we have the tools for that now. :applause:

Hey Rami,

Yes Leningrad is turning out to be a trip, but should be worth the efforts. I do have permission from the author of the FS2002 St. Petersburg scenery to use the models in CFS2. With the help of Guis we are adding LOD's and damage models. Also been working on Milton's Avia 51 adding LOD's and converting to CFS2 for the SCW theatre. I like having a bunch of projects going, it gives me a chance for variety, which is the spice.

I will gladly see what I can do about La Spezia. Any good links or reference photos are always appreciated.

Tobob,

Thanks, I'll look into it and get some pictures. You're not alone in your comment, I like to work with a lot of irons in the fire as well. :mixedsmi:

Kdriver,

I dunno if this helps, but I hand-edited a mission file I'm working on and used the DamBusters Lanc as my aircraft, and then Tango/Bismarck's Lancaster AI for the other aircraft in my formation.

I also have a present for you. For the "Tirpitz failure" mission, I never liked the fact that there was no transition from England to Russia, you just were "magically transported" to Yagodnik. With that it mind, I built a mission were you fly out of Lossiemouth and fly to Yagodnik, traveling via Stavanger, Oslo, Stockholm, and Leningrad along the way. There's also a chance of interception by German fighters, as well as low visibility and rain.

The actual force had thirty-seven Lancasters, two Liberator transports, and a single Mosquito on a weather reconnaissance mission. I skipped the Liberators and the Mosquito, but the Lancaster force numbers are correct.

Now, if I can just get those other damn flights to stop crashing when they land...:banghead:

Thanks Rami - it looks good. As I mentioned in the other thread, I made Operations Paravane and Catechism a few years ago before Achim had constructed the necessary airfields. I used Steve McClelland's Lossiemouth which is in the correct position but the runways are post-war in length. I made a rough airstrip for Yagodnik in the correct position at N64 24 E40 53 on an island in the Dvina River (you can still make out the the runway and taxiways on Google Earth).

I'll try your mission with the Buddha/Garwood Lancaster in order to test the frame rates. I'm using the 617 and 9 Squadrons fuselage textures for the Tallboy/Grand Slam Special (no bomb doors) on the Mk I/III model. The Lancasters of these operations still had their bomb doors fitted, although the mid-upper turret was removed.

Kdriver,

I'll stick with Achim's fields, because it's something we already have, I'm actually going to work on Operation Bellicose this weekend, the Maybach engine plant is located at Friedrichshafen, and can double for the Zeppelin Works, that way I don't have to do anything extra. I'll have to build a harbor and Italian Naval base at La Spieza for the return flight. The other biggie are the U-boat pens at Brest.

ETO Ports...mea culpa!

Good morning,

Doing further research, it would appear that I really screwed the pooch when I did the Nantes / Saint Nazaire area. I am going to work the next few days on fixing it up, using sub pens at Saint Nazaire and moving the port facilities for these two places to where they should be. I will probably add a bridge or two and do it right this time. Stay tuned, I'll post the results in this thread as I go.

Sounds good - unlike Taranto, the docks built in 1932 at St Nazaire have hardly changed in shape and size since the war. The oil refinery at Donges a bit further upstream was also there and was a target for allied bombers.

Good evening,

Well, I think I'm satisfied with the results of Nantes. The Mission Builder picture is what will be GSL...it includes a rail yard, a rail line extending out to a road, as well as bridges over the Loire River. I will put in the AA guns, ships, and train cars tomorrow. It seems that I'll have to call in the engineers for St. Nazaire.

I usually answer these, but...

Good evening,

Does anyone know where I can find the object "Brick_Wall?" I can't seem to locate this one!

Thanks in advance,

Hello Rami

There is a Brick_Wall.dp in the Miission_Builder_Objects.zip file, Mission Builder Objects by Stephen Barstow a.k.a Stiz.

Had me scratching my head for a while until I realised the file name had 2 x ii's in it.

Have included a copy below in case the file is missing in action/AWOL.

Hope this helps.

Regards, Seagull V

Good morning,

I just tested the new Nantes harbor, boy, she blows up real nice. The bridges are a nice touch too! :icon29:

I don't think there is anything new here that is not already required by my ETO ports.

Rami, Here are a few progress shots. I excluded the shorelines and added my own set with a landmask scenery.

I'm not fond of that "bump" mesh so I used strategically placed A16n flattens using Sbuilder and Autocoast to create a new one like in the Bermuda scenery. It's wierd because these flattens won't work unless they are placed below the Eurw which probably has something to do with Sander's A16n flattens. So I placed them in the world\scenery folder and it works correctly. tobob

Tobob,

That's awesome, I'll shift back to that as soon as I'm done with Battle for Europe. I just redid Nantes Harbor, but I'll need some help with St. Nazaire, because some U-boat pens gotta go in there. :icon29:
