Ford Tri-Motor Repaints UNDONE!

SOH-CM-2023
Greetings All,

Just a general shout out for any repaints for the default Ford Tri-Motor that have not been done yet. If you have a picture or can describe it please let me know and if doable - it will be done. So far Garry has done 97 with about ten left to do. When these are done - that will be the end of this project. Take care.

In the 1965 movie The Family Jewels Jerry Lewis flew a (seemed to fly Movie Magic you know) a Tri Motor. The plane is still flying today and its current paint job you may have already done.

However it had a different color scheme in the movie that I am not sure if you and Garry have done.

This is the only link I could find so far that showed a picture of the aircraft in the movie. It is not very clear but perhaps it is good enough for you to identify it.

This one would go in my hanger. When I was a kid I loved (still love) this movie. Jerry has always been a favorite actor alone or with Dean Martin.

If you need more referance materials let me know and i will do the leg work. If you have already done it Point ME To IT. :icon_lol:

Thanks to the both of you.

Re: Same

edmoore235,

How about Pan Am? Sinclair Oil? Branniff. just thought I'd throw those out there.

Another yes to that Tri Motor from The Family Jewels. One of my very favorite aircraft in FS9, not just because it is a Golden Age aircraft, but because I have had two flights on EAA's Tri Motor.
Thanks for all the repaints.

Yes, already have the Pan Am in the works - Braniff is done and up for download, here at SOH.

Any pictures of The Sinclair Oil Company aircraft? Would love to see it and get it done.

Any better pictures on the Jerry Lewis movie, Family Jewels? Would love to see it done as well. Thanks - take care.

Mobile Oil Pegasus from the Milton Shupe, Scott Thomas, and André Folkers - FlightsimOnline Aero Commander

Phillips 66 Orange and Black from the Milton & Co. Beech 18

Plus, maybe something from Alaska -- haven't any ideas on this one -- maybe a fictional ERA Alaska or to that effect. I like the green and yellow Hageland scheme too.

If you're set on something from the old Southwest then an adaptation of the turquoise and orange Mesa/America West scheme might dress up the old tin shed.

Flew in the EAA Tri-Motor at Oshkosh 2003, a lot of fun. Use one in Flightsim in the Rockies to barnstorm around the place. Have some of the default Tri-Motors set up as AI into the backcountry.

Thanks, will look for the Philips 66 and Mobile Oil - sounds like fun. Already have about four Alaska repaints....with two more pending...

BTW: It would really help if ya had a picture of what ya want; I do not have either of the aircraft listed....not the Beech 18 or for sure no Aero Commander on my system.

Johnson Flying Service contracted with the US Forest Service using Tri-Motors and other aircraft. They were famous for Smoke Jumper operations and air drops to ground crews on forest fires.

I did some preliminary research, but I can't find any photos of their aeroplanes. I'll keep looking. I'll also E-mail my brother, a retired Smoke Jumper, and see if he has any photos or links.

By the way, great job on the paint jobs so far.

Yep - already done that one: it is here at SOH, not much to work with so Garry Jazzed up the paint job, he used real NC number, real Ford serial number and correct delivery date and place...... hope you enjoy it.

Ford Tri-Motor "Johnson Flying Service" by Garry J. Smith

FS2004 "Ford Tri-Motor "Johnson Flying Service" repaint by Mr. Garry J. Smith at "garry@gjsmith.net".

The Micosoft default Ford Tri-Motor painted in Johnson Flying Service livery (Fictional paint job). Ford serial 4-AT-58. Delivered to JFS on 4-10-39 in Missoula, MT. NC-0684 registration number. This is a real aircraft that flew for Johnson Flying Service.

It is hard to accurately paint this plane. Many of the textures are mirrored. The best has been done within that limitation.

Looks like I will have to buy the movie. There are no really good pictures on the net of the scene from the movie.

It maybe a while before I can purchase it.

These are suggestions of course since the original textures were done by other authors for different planes. How they would fit onto the Tri-Motor is up to you and Gary. :kilroy:
Yes -- I saw the Alaska planes a few weeks ago, I'm getting to that age... :isadizzy:

At Flightsim.com the Aero Commander is "FS2004 Aero Commander 520" and the file is "ac520v31.zip". I believe this is an André Folkers texture. It was released with the 520 package.

The Beech 18 Phillips 66 repaint was done by John Banner. At Flightsim.com it is "FS2004 Phillips 66 Beechcraft D18S" and the file is "p66_d18s.zip"

I will look for the original source photos for both. Pegasus was a real Aero Commander used by Mobil Oil. I think the Twin Beech was also a Phillips corporate A/C. Neither is a contemporary of the Tri-Motor but they look like they might suit the Ford well. Also, just to recap from another thread, there's a flight model update over at Cal Classics that was done by FS Aviator for the Tri-Motor :)
