Forgotten History

I'm a little surprised (not really)there was no mention of D-Day,June 6,1944.There was also no mention of the Battle of Midway,June 3-6,1942.Both very important in WWII.

Maybe you don't know history or don't care and just want to fly and shoot things up.Mission Builders try to bring History to you and work hard to do it the best they can. Some probably don't even know the history behind what they are flying,

I'm sure most of you have a relative that fought in WWII,a father, grandfather,in=laws or uncle.

Don't forget they fought and died to bring Freedom back to Europe. How could you forget them? They are considered the Greatest Generation for a reason.

People in this forum used to talk about history and some told their family story during those Historic times,no more.Seems the newer generation has taken over and have no concerns for the past.Such a shame. You should learn from the past and correct the mistakes or you will just keep repeating the same mistakes.

Hi Hiede,

I respectfully think that maybe you are being a little unfair.

Our small town had a ceremony to commemorate D-Day and people from all generations were involved. This seems to have been replicated across the UK so I don't think its a generational issue. I'm also a primary school teacher and it has definitely been a part of the children's learning.

At the end of the day this forum is centered around a game and a very old one at that. It's absolutely amazing that there is still any kind of engagement with it at this point. If people just want to fly and shoot things up well it should be ok for them to do that. Some like myself appreciate the extra historical details. Everyone is different.

As far as engagement around development of new add-ons, I get your frustration. It doesn't take much to leave a message of appreciation. Unfortunately its bound to happen as the base of people using the game diminishes. Also forums as a whole are on the decline. I guess its all in the name of progress.

Heide ; I share your dismay. I myself try to post concerning D-Day PH day etc. I was traveling and unable to access internet during the period I was away and just returned to see what was posted. I too am disappointed. Ian, she is not referring to observations in any municipality but at least some here. Yes this is a game but it is also a recreation of history.
As Heide states many have relatives who fought in either theater. I had relatives at D-Day and other at Tarawa(sp?)) and the 'canal. I study history alot and always find some tidbit I didn't know , and admit it, in Heides' and the late Talons posts.
Thanks for posting Heide and hope you are enjoying your trip.

I agree with Fibber. I certainly remember that day. One of my uncles was killed January 1945 in France when Hitler launched Operation Northwind. His company and another were surrounded and they fought until ammo was gone. About 1/2 were killed and the other half were captured. My son jumped with the 82nd on commemorative D-Day 1982.

I remember the battles and the cost. My father fought in New Guinea and on Guam. His brother served as a tank commander in the 761st "Black Panthers" bn.
