And a bloody big one with pretty amazing stuff in it. ever heard of Google Sketchup..? well, they have this thing called 3dwarehouse where you can store the models you've build.. and look what I found..

yeah, XB-35 Flying wing by northrop, and it's BIG model, with 200k polygons on it.. see for yourself: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=d658bca395bde29d176e2b8cc4368327&prevstart=0

and there's plenty of other experimental aircrafts from both allies and axis.. I wonder if the authors of these models would be willing to have these models in CFS3, as long as the credit is given where it's due?

dude, if that thing flew in CFS3, that's ALOT of bombs!

indeed.. I also found this from there.

And as far as I know, the full version of Google Sketchup accepts a plugin that can convert these into Gmax-compatible form. if anyone is interested to pick this project up, that is.. there's plenty of awesome aircrafts there. of course, we would need permissions from the models authors, as I said before..

oh yeah, while speaking of big aircrafts..

and B52 Stratofortress is there as well.. I wonder if these little planes will make anyone willing to try.

Thanks for the link Lionus, there's some good looking models there as well as there being unusual types. Mind you it would be as much work converting these as starting from scratch. Having said that as ai only it wouldn't be too onerous. The Fairy Fox caught my eye as did the bubble canopy Spit. Will look into this further...

I'm grateful if you do. I think that I might try doing the conversions myself, as soon as I can find the conversation on other forum that was discussing about turning sketchup files into Gmax-files..

for some reason, i can smell "operation black buck" in the distance.

Excellent find! Nobody remembers this one model anymore though!

BTW, anybody knows wht the plugin is called to convert them to GMAX format? They are already semi-completed are they not?

I mean , there's not alot you have to do or are these just blueprints?

They need to be converted to 3ds format to get them into Gmax.
I found a Sketchup plugin on this site http://www.sycode.com/
it's $95 or theres a demo which gives you 10 exports.

I think you need to know a little about sketchup before converting though as both models I tried are incomplete when they open in Gmax - the parts need to be ungrouped or exploded. They also seem very high in polys and are imported as a single mesh.

Btw the professional SU comes with the 3ds exporter - it may be worth contacting the creator to see if they'd be willing to convert the source for you.

I did try the method listed on this forum, but couldn't get it to work - apparently not all models will. http://forums.devshed.com/game-development-141/converting-sketchup-models-to-3dst-519710.html

Have also just found this http://3d2f.com/tags/converter/skp/
not tried it yet though.

well, after a sleepless night, I found the necessary plugins to bring these models into 3DS Max 9.. and that's where my know how ends. If anyone is interested or willing to give these models a shot ( making HP and possible paintjob, perhaps interiors and such), shoot me a PM and I'll see what I can do.

I dunno why but I like the way this little plane looks. :icon_lol:
