Frame Rate solution

OBIO

Retired SOH Admin
I did a format and OS reinstall.....and since then, my frame rates in FS9 have been a good bit lower than normal. I have my sim locked at 25, and for the most part I get 24.9 FPS on a very consistent basis...some planes and some scenery locations drop my frames a bit. But, my frames were down to the upper teens. I thought that perhaps it was the new video driver I had installed...so I went back to an older version.....no change in FPS. Went back to an even older driver...again, no difference.

Then I happened to take a look at the refresh rate setting...it was set at 60...the lowest setting. I set it to 75, which is the highest setting my monitor supports...and frame rates are back to 24.9!

If you suddenly find your frame rates are less than they usually are...check your monitor's refresh rate. If it is set on the low end of the scale, that will have an impact on your frame rates.

No only on the frame rates of the sim but also on the health of your eyes.
After a while the sensation of burns .. irritation will appears .... with a 60 Hz frequency at least on CRT monitors ... BTW who are the bests :)

The greater than 60 Hz rule only applies to CRT monitors and it does indeed make things easier on the eyes.

Modern, flat, LCD screens are designed to run at 60 Hz (except for a few special cases) but use a different technology so that they don't have the same issues the old CRT tubes had.
