Freeware mesh at the Outhouse

Hi all.

There is a new set of worldwide SRTM-based mesh for CFS2, FS2002 and FS2004 at the outhouse library:

Several of these files can replace there defaults and should provide a more uniform mesh through the LOD7 resolution level. Addon meshes over LOD7 will still show over these files.

Some of these LOD7 meshes may have superior detail than the default LOD9 files.

Could you perhaps post a guide to your files? I may not want to download the whole pile but a few parts in the places I regularly fly.

Just wondering, but how good do these textures look and how much computer power does it take to run them.:typing:
 
I downloaded all of Rhumbafloppy's new mesh...replacement LOD5, replacement base mesh file...Dem4km.bgl..something like that, and the LOD7 mesh. And the difference it made in the few areas I looked at is astounding. The wow factor after the install was as great as the wow factor when comparing stock CFS2 scenery to stock FS2004 scenery. Some of the stock stuff did not change...as it is rendered by the stock LOD9 mesh which takes priority over the LOD7 mesh...but those areas that are LOD7 in stock form are greatly improved with the new mesh. I fired up the Razbam T-2 in Switzerland, Alploch.....with and without the new mesh....and the difference is like comparing a paint by number version of the Mona Lisa to the real one done by Leonard Divinci......like comparing an AM transitor radio to a surround sound theater. The mountains were sharper, more craggy, not so blurry and rounded...lots of nice sharp peaks, deep fissures...very very detailed. And, aside from this mesh install and Real Environment Pro....my install is totally stock...I have not even tweaked my FS9.cfg file at this point.

And this mesh is not just on the Alps, or just for the Blue Ridge Mountains...it is for the entire freaking PLANET! And it is FREE!

It took a while to download the entire get up....I am now running a base 768Kps internet connection that gets slow during bad/cold weather...but the wait was worth it.

I highly recommend Rhumbafloppy's mesh to anyone looking for an instant and free upgrade of FS2004 scenery...also works in CFS2, though I have not tried it in that sim yet.

Will grab some before and after shots of a few places and post them for your viewing pleasure in a day or two. Right now, gotta go watch some boob tube with the wife.

They look great...and I did not notice any real difference in sim performance at all. Now, that may change once Rhumba releases his LOD9 mesh..but the replacement base mesh file (dem4km.bgl), the LOD5 and LOD7 mesh made no real difference in frame rates but really turned the voltage up on the visual punch of the sim.

I don't have the files yet, but if they're like other meshes I have, there's not any textures, just the framework that the textures are laid across. I have mesh packs in several key areas around the world, and so far, none of them have ever affected my frames. Even on my old rig, where 20 FPS in FS9 was cause for celebration, mesh files had little to no impact.
 
I am continueing to play with rumbafloppies ground mesh I installed in FS2004, FS2002, and CFS2. I already shared how my son and I flew through the Grand Canyon to check out the mesh running on two different versions of Flight Simulator running on different computers; next, I decided to visit some famous landmarks, and see what they look like.

First of all, here is Mt. Fuji, at sunrise from across Kawaguchiko, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan. FS2002;compare to an actual photograph at:
