Fresh install but....

Having done a fresh install of FS9, when I go to run it I get the splashscreen, then a black screen, then it drops back to my desktop:banghead:
anyone possibly shed some light on possible fix?

Have added nothing yet, just run the 9.1 update.

Fauville,

Did you delete the last folder isntallation? Sometimes leaving old bits in the previous original folder will cause a new install to be messed up. (Its happened to me before).

You 'could' try renaming the FS9 folder to 'Backup FS9' folder, then selecting uninstall FS9, then reinstalling FS9 once more. This will give you a 'pure' install with no addons in it. White sheets, clean slate, no left over modules, gauges, effects, etc, that might be messing up your new install.

Just some humble advice.

and don't forget to clean out the My Documents folder/Flight Simulator Files/(these are your old flight files, including the default flight), and the old Application Data/Microsoft/FS9/*.*

do the above before the install, or you will have old settings messing with your new install.

Thus, clean those folders out, and re-install and see what happens.

Thanks Bill and Feng, done all the above twice over and still no go:isadizzy:. With a new install, when the new FS Files folder is created in My Docs during the install, should there be a default flight file generated in there for a Cessana at SeaTac, because it is empty?

One thing to try if you have not already done so is change the installation path. I have found with games that I have installed multiple times sometimes play up when installing.

Installing to a different location can help in some cases. Or try a previous restore point before the Flight Simulator installation if you have one

There are also some files in your registry that can cause issues with reinstalls. There was also a caution to uninstall the SP First if you had it installed. Awhile back I had the full procedure to use (I got it from MS support) and I posted it here. I guess it got lost in the mess. I will see If I can find it again. I had it saved on a CD I think.

It would be greatly appreciated if you can track that down.

With regard the question about the empty Flight Simulator Files folder in My Docs on install, should there be the default flight files in there for default start?

Took a look in the FLIGHTS folder in FS9 after the third install, in the OTHER folder with the MEIGS and default flight file in there, neither had a WX file, all the other flight folders had WX files, is that normal?

Certainly banging my head on this one, can't fly the SABRE:banghead::banghead:

When I did my recent full uninstall of FS9, I made sure I went through and made sure all the components were completely out of the system. I ended up manually removing some things as well and the automatic uninstall. My big problem was that FS9 on my system had bloated quite a bit over 2 years. There was just too much crap in there a lot of which was unused components of aircraft and scenery I hadn't used in nearly 2 years. I ended up removing a lot of things manually over to my recycle bin which needless to say wasn't big enough to hold everything. Once I confirmed all was clear, I started my base reinstall all the way up to nearly my regular level of usefulness I had the last year or so. All the error messages are gone, all scenery conflict related CTD's are gone, and the sim runs better than ever. Everything loads up very fast now. Before I dumped everything and reinstalled, I was getting CTD's almost everytime I used the sim and it took 10 mins for the program to get up to speed from the icon click to the aircraft select screen! I learned my lesson about being overzealous adding items to the sim and clogging it up. I am going to keep it as lean as possible. Good luck with getting your problem straightened out. Keep the thread updated on what happens.
