Freshly restored classic

Well, after several months work, a few tear-downs and rebuilds and a lot of throwing tools at the hangar wall...
an old classic is about to show off her new image.

The package is ready.. just waiting for the installer to be finished and the distribution system set up, but in the meantime, here are a few peeks from the days of flight testing...

Release announcement will be at http://cr1-software.com within the next few days.
Yes, it's payware, but both FS9 and FSX-compatible (DX9) versions will be included for about the price of a six-pack of brew.
New paints, new flight realistic dynamics, renovated panels (2 different VC's)

Looks great Rob.

I love going in and making personal adjustments on a plane, tweaking something here, adjusting something there..

What a great plane to do that too as well.

Reminds me, I need to take my Sparton out and let it stretch its wings...

I'm a hopeless sucker for a good Twin Beech; I'd take one of these old, round-engined, piston popping beauties over a Lear or Gulfstream anyday. There are a couple that occasionally fly auto parts cargo out of Oshawa for General Motors and they pass over my place late at night - what a wonderful sound those old P&W 985's make. And they're not those hideous Volpar abominations either, 100% vintage taildragger.

During flight test I even landed her a few times on the (FSX) CV6 Enterprise! This is a good example of a plane that does not perform too well if you fill it with full, fuel, full pax and full baggage..... All at the same time. Better hope you don't puke an engine as the Overload single engine service cieling might require you to be in Death Valley on a cold day.....

A note: as with the real deal, a locking, swiveling tailwheel, so not "power steering" on the ground, rudder, engines and brakes. Actually a lot of fun!

A few months ago someone was posting pics of a payware beech18 that was in the works. The thread was nuked after there was accusations that it was someone elses work used without permission. Is this the same model or a completely different one? Im not trying to start a pissing match just trying to figure out whos work im looking at. If this is a new model i hope them all the best as Miltons team has done a stand up job in my books.Cant wait to try this one out.

deja vu

Let's not let this degenerate like it did the the last time.

I believe this is the upgraded Beech 18 previously announced on the CR1 Software website. The original SimTech version was/is a very nice plane. Just like Mustangs and Corsairs, there's always room for another rendition of the old Bugsmasher. :) The NAS Glenview paint job looks like the UC-45 I serviced as a young lad in 1966. Maybe we could have a "no prop spinner" model to reflect a more modern look?

In a word, yes.

It was quite a coincidence that just after I posted the screenshots this thread popped up in the NewsHawks
http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforu...n-raising-funds-for-Ill.-fighter-plane-museum

I'd found the link to hangarone.org as I was searching for possible locations for the shots - and have since found an original 1946-50 photo (too poor quality to post here) of the NAS Glenview Beech in the book that was produced to honour the closing of one of the most important Navy stations in history. CR-1 Software is considering ways we might be able to help the museum and we'll keep you informed.

Here in Fairbanks we have one on a pole (tasty?) in bare aluminium. A bunch of my first officers have flown them around at various stages of night freight etc in their careers. Ya have to love two shaky jakes out there making music.

Rob,
When I was attending Reserve drill weekends at Glenview back in 1966-68 I recall that in the Air Ops building (the tower portion that still exists) there was an excellent photo gallery on the wall with 8x10 pics of just about all the aircraft types that were ever assigned to the station. From the old Loening amphibs right up through A-4's and P2V's. I think some of those pics are on the Hangar One website, unfortunately they're very small and you can't click on them to enlarge them. I do remember the Bugsmashers were station hacks but were always well maintained and looking sharp. No squadron designations, usually just

on the fuselage. The red/white paint on the CR1 plane looks almost spot-on. :)

I have never heard the Beech 18 being referred to as Bugsmasher before...how did that come about? I like it.
