... via CFS 2
I was looking for something Russian to fly and Moses suggested a CFS 2 Il-2 to convert. Well, I got to looking in the CFS 2 Russian aircraft here in the downloads library and kept seeing these Polikarpov I-16s by Ivan Hsu. Anyway, I got to thinking that a long time ago Tekworm converted some of Ivan's I-16s to FS9 and was wondering if they still even existed in the downloads library. A quick search under Tek's name turned this one up and I installed it.
Tek's readme says it's a handful to fly and it can be rather difficult at times enough to keep things "interesting" (it's only tried to kill me a couple of dozen times so far), but it's a whole lot of fun. Tek included a panel by Lobo for it that I just added a few items to make a bit more civilized (primitive autopilot, dual ADF radio & a handheld GPS). I took it up for a testflight across western Tennessee ending up in Memphis to get a feel for it's speed and gas mileage.
Anyway, it's not bad for something of it's age and I'm ready to head out across Siberia now....
ETA: As it's a CFS 2 aircraft, if you crash it, it comes apart in some interesting ways. I let a wingtip drag the ground on landing yesterday and the whole wing tore and the plane skidded on it's side to a stop!
