im still stuck on the searching for updates page. its in full screen mode so i cant access any of the "controls"? in the sim. the xbox app wont load. i cant find where to go to sign out outside of the sim.microsoft store? or something.Haywood had said to go to the microsoft store to sign out. i dont know if im being stupid (i think so) or what. on a side note, since the last tie i said i got better, i got sick again, this time it was a combination of a new med and an old one, bad reaction, and an after effect is a "diminished brain function"... all i want to do is fly, but im thinking its not going to happen.

i was thinking of deleting my current install, that i can figure out, other than do i have to delete all of my addons? i deleted my previous version on a different pc,without deleting my addons and the new install went right in with the old addons there. will work again? then , this is the most frustrating thing. im on win 11, and i cant for the life of me, think of where to go on my pc to find the installer. should be in my files? does windows or CCleaner still give you the option to repair, reinstall, or delete? or is it just delete? should i redownload an installer? where do i go to find it? im sure i bought direct from the store.. i know its not steam. anyone live in carbon county utah? come over n help me? a price utah police officer who came to take a report after a crazy woman decided to kill herself and stab me to death because i rejected her, true story, anyway, i dont remember his name and i know he changed departments to huntington utah, its ckose, if i could get a hold of him, he might, but no clue how to reach him

We're here for you Dave, being stuck on the updates page is a common problem so it's not just you. It's not MSFS that's screwed up, it's Xbox Gaming Services - here's what to do:

To repair Gaming Services on your PC using the Xbox App (should be on your taskbar or windows icon/all apps):

Launch the Xbox app for PC.
Click your Profile picture.
Click on Support.
Click on Gaming Services Repair Tool.
Click on Start repairing.
This takes about 30 seconds on my PC and fixes the issue until next time it happens, usually after a CTD.

If the Gaming Services Repair Tool doesn't change anything, it's possible that your XBox Credentials have become corrupted.
These "credentials" are your digital proof of ownership files and they are checked every time you launch MSFS. They can become corrupted after a CTD for example, but they're fairly easy to re-set.
First of all, log out of your Microsoft Store account and your Xbox App account.
Then, in the search window on the taskbar, type credential manager.
In the Credential manager window, under Manage your credentials, select Windows Credentials on the lower right.
There'll be quite a list of entries, and most of them will begin with "XblGrts". These are your MSFS credentials.
Click on each XblGrts entry and select Delete. Don't worry, once you've deleted them all they'll be automatically re-created when you reboot Windows.
Once you've rebooted Windows, log back in to Microsoft Store and your Xbox App and the MSFS update should be available to download again.

Unless the program is totally frozen, you should be able to toggle windowed mode with Alt+Enter.

ok, thank you both. thing is tiger, the xbox app wont load, a box comes up on my screen that says something like "application is loading", but even 1 1/2hrs later, it still hadnt opened. i tried to re-download it to update it, but it made no change. i looked in what used to be called "add/remove" ?.. anyway there were several items in there with xbox app whatever, didnt want to remove them as i didnt know if id screw something else up or not.

my last resort will be to send both SSDs back to mike at Ecollegepc and see if he can just wipe both and reload windows and ill just start over.

that begs the question,, i have a "D" drive thats bigger space wise, and he says its faster somehow, but i cant remember what or how. lol. my question is, can MSFS2020 be loaded on it directly? or does it have to go on "C" drive? and what about MSFS2024? i mean ideally for my mind, 2020 on the C and 2024 on the D would be best. or would it not? i shouldnt attempt to think as now that ive got 3 pcs, id like to wipe my gaming pc and reload 2020 and any addons and nothing else as thats what i had planned on to begin with, but living on the boat, i had no room so i just used the new machine, so theres a lot of crap on it. the boyfriend i had while living on the boat was addicted to porn, i asked him not to use my pc for it, but he did anyway.. so i think that might have something to do with my issues. btw.. he was a cop and should have been more respectful.

Ok one thing at a time.
First of all, forget about launching MSFS if your XBox app doesn't work properly. If the XBox app doesn't load, it means there's an issue on your computer about connecting to MS Live servers, and this would ANYWAYS prevent your sim from working.
So the issues with the XBox app have to be solved first.

You mentioned the MS Store application in your initial message. How's that one ? It is loading and working fine ? If so, then I would recommend you to follow these steps:
1- Ensure the XBox app is killed (no "X" icon near your clock in the task bar ;) ) and launch the MS Store app from your start menu
2- after the "home page" is fully loaded, in the vertical menu bar on the left of the window, click on the "library" icon which should be on your lower left corner of the window.
3- a screen with the list of your windows applications will appear. On the top-right corner of the window, there should be a blue button "get updates" or something like that (there's only one button anyways). Click on it and let it load.
4- it might download some updates for your XBox app and XBox related services.
5- try to launch the XBox app again and tell us what happens.

thank you Daube, i will do this today after my caregiver leaves, this might be a rough one as id filed a complaint against her friday afternoon. i dont have a working printer right now either. lol.

Any problems one has with MSFS is usually from a 3rd party installation in your Community folder or something you removed from your Content Manager (usually scenery) that MSFS does not want removed. The Gaming Services tool can also be reached by opening the Xbox App, clicking on the MSFS icon, go to the three dots beside See In Store and click it, go to Manage, click on FILES and then click Verify and Repair, then click Yes when prompted.

If stuck on the update is still happening after doing all the things mentioned, try turning off your internet connection while in that screen.
If you can’t get out of full screen, just pull the cable.
When MSFS tells you in red that it can’t update, simply acknowledge and it should continue to load. Let it get all the way to the main FS screen and then reconnect to the internet.

Well, it is my turn to be pissed at MS and their abysmal downloading speeds. Yesterday morning, I decided to move MSFS from the stupid 15 layers default location to another, simpler location. I thought I had moved all the Official and Community folders to the new location. I modified the CFG file to point to the new location of the Official and Community folders.

Well, MSFS insisted in redownloading 40 or so GBs of data. It has been over 24 hours, and it is still downloading. You would think that a company that basically invented PC software IO systems would be able to have faster downloading servers.

And why must it download everything. I don't need discovery flights or landing challengers, among other things. If I want to fly one, let me download it then.

That is most likely the same trap I fell in a time or two now.
Even after all the changes etc when the start screen shows up, you will see the old location of where the files should go.
You can click into that and then select the new path.

Thanks for the reply. Done that, did that. I even tried a new location. I have been trying to get MSFS to load and work for three days now.
