FS Developers - I Salute You

I would just like to lodge my appreciation and respect for all developers of FS addons, be they commercial or freeware, that extend and enhance this hobby of ours. I always thought I had a fair idea of how much effort goes into producing an addon. Well, I did and I didn't, but I think I have a better idea now. How may you ask?

I'll tell you, I've just dusted-off and installed FlightSim Design Studio 3.5 (from Abacus) that I've had for several years. I've installed it in the past but never got around to using it properly. Well, I decided it was about time that I made amends and taught myself how to use it. Now, it's very early days and progress is slow but I'm enjoying myself immensely.

I thought I'd post a pic of what I've achieved so far - not much but it's a start! Any guesses as to what aeroplane it's going to be?

I'll post further updates as and when I can :icon_lol:

No idea. But you have started off the right way: export early, export often, check your work in the sim as you go. :applause:

+1 on what Tom said plus find out how FSDS handles 'smoothing groups' and then try applying them as you will see an immediate improvement on what you have now.

Looking very good so far though even though I have no idea what it will be yet.

welcome to the world of realized imagination . it takes time but you'll be able to look back and see improvement in your skills with each new project.
in time you will take some pride in seeing your name on one of your shared works and the download count numbers will show you how many people
have enjoyed the fruits of your labors.

good luck and always have fun

Yeah, kind of looks like a P-47.

I'll keep watching this one, if only to see the journey of another innocent soul into the abyss of time spent looking at vertices, cursing ill shaded polys and "I need to pee, but need to fix this knob" addiction. :icon_lol:

Well I will not guess yet,but keep at it!....I started out back in the day the exact same way...making wonderful looking Barrels and boxes and shapes that might have even resembled an aeroplane. Now almost 10 years later Things here at Golden Age Simulations could not look better! The Hobby needs new blood be it Freeware or Payware...who knows I just might be buying Models from you in a couple of years! Good Luck and Keep Modeling!

Thanks for all the guidance and encouragement so far, much appreciated. Here is the latest update:

It's not a radial so not a P-47 but it's a P-something ;-)

Regards,

Taff

Thought I'd post a small update. Created the wings again from scratch as I wasn't happy with them. Spent a lot of time trying to get the main undercarriage as accurate as possible (given my limited skill/knowledge) now on to the tail wheel. Quite pleased with the props :icon_lol: A word of warning though - this modelling hobby is addictive!

A word of warning though - this modelling hobby is addictive!

Make sure to catch enough breaks and give in to any signs of hunger or so. I'm *not* kidding!

The last time I went down the developer's death spiral, I came out with 24+ hours without sleep, nicotine and any major amount of food. This and more made for a nice cold on the day after.

Another progress update :icon_lol: Why, oh why did I choose an aeroplane with a tear-drop canopy (and a bulged one at that) for my first ever model? It has taken me ages to figure it out. Right, time for some shut-eye. Tomorrow I'll start experimenting with the moving flight surfaces. Who knows, at this rate it might be ready by Christmas! :santahat:

Never rush a work of art. It's done when it's done. And you're off to a very good start. A marriage takes time.:wavey:
