FS KBT F-2 afterburner set up

Hello all, I recently installed the awesome F-2A/B from FS KBT and was wondering how to change the afterburner effects to a different effect file so they come on automatically when I go full power, right now the burner works, but the flame is kind of dull, and I want it a little more detailed. Any suggestions on what to do?

Thanks,

Goshawk45

Go into your aircraft.cfg file and look for an fx_afterburner file. (It may be called something else like fx_flame or something, you should be able to figure it out.) Once you've found it (usually in the lights section) cancel it out by putting // in front of the entire light entry like this. //light.8 = 8, -13.00, -2.00, -0.9, fx_ALPHA_F101_AB This will turn that particular entry off and then you can try your F-2 and make sure the afterburner doesn't work (that way you know you are working the correct entry). Once you've successfully located it you can swap it out with any AB effect from any plane in your aircraft library (freeware or payware). Simply find one you like better and substitute that fx_XXXXXXX file for the one in your F-2. You may have to tweak the location of the flame by adjusting the numbers in red (light.8 = 8, -13.00, -2.00, -0.9, fx_ALPHA_F101_AB) to get it just where you want it. First number is the fore/aft location, second is the left/right and last is up/down. This entry for the VooDoo is -2.00 as it has two engines and they are not on center. Your F-2 should have 0.00 in the middle spot.
Have fun! This is the first tweaking I did with .cfg files and it doesn't take long to get the hang of it! (I do this a lot. Pretty much any plane I get with an afterburning J57 gets the Milviz F-100 AB effect linked to it!)

P.S. If the AB flame doesn't work automatically by throttle position you can usually fix that too but it's a little more involved. Let me know if you need help with that and I'll walk you through it!

Thanks for the help, I got it working, just got to tweak the fore and aft a bit! I will definitely reach out if I need any future help with this again.

Hey Gos, glad to help. I have the Aerosoft F-16 but decided to try the F-2 out and it is pretty tight. There are differences between the two that I was not aware of! The most obvious one when in the VC is that the F-2 has a three piece canopy versus the F-16's two piece. I was saddened that the F-2A version didn't have a clean version of the white and red scheme. I set my aircraft.cfg to make one available. Here's the entry if you'd like it! (I assume you've added repaints to your aircraft before, if not don't hesitate to ask and I'll gladly help out!
Put this as the last entry in the Mitsubishi_F-2A_FSX aircraft.cfg [fltsim.xx] section.

Thank you very much, I was wanting that too! The Mitsubishi F-2 is a very interesting aircraft, I am enjoying it thoroughly. Next on my list is to get the Aerosoft F-16 for a little comparing and contrast.

Money well spent! It is a great add-on. (As a bonus for me there is even a Wisconsin ANG anniversary skin for it! Wish I could find a Bucky Badger scheme for IRIS's A-10 too.)
