FS2002 Growing Pains...

I posted a similar thread on Flightsim.com but there's not too many websites that still have FS2002 forums that are active! Sim-Outhouse is definately on my top ten list of websites, right
at number 1! I've have no problems using any of the CFS2 sounds from here in FS2002 and they sound just like my old FS98 collection (which was perfect for FS98)!

It's been about a month since I upgraded to FS2002 (Standard) from FS98. I have a few issues that I'm still troubleshooting and I want to post them here. The idea is to see if these are general FS2002 kinks or just me!

I miss the World > Goto > Exact Location menu from FS98. It seems to be incorporated into the map view, which leads to my next issue...

While the Map view seems to be fine for checking out the local area, if I try to move the aircraft from the Northern Hemisphere to the Southern (or vice versa) then generally FS2002 locks up. (I've given it 10 minutes to finish before calling up the task manager!)

Lastly, there are some areas where it seems to be simply impossible to go. I start at Meigs and select an airport in Peru and the loading bar goes to 0% and locks there. (Nazca Airport was a good example.) I've tried areas in Nevada that do the same thing and areas in Great Britain too. Right now all the settings in FS2002 are set for the normal or default positions. Nothing is really maxxed out. My FPS average around 50 and are locked at 60. I'm wondering if I might have to turn down the AI Aircraft settings to see if that might be the issue. I'm not that real big on seeing 60-600 aircraft around me!

Other than that, I really like FS2002. I'm still discovering the new scenery and trying to continue my FS Archeaology ("Jonesing with Indy") that I started with FS98 while running "The Old Hangar" website! :wavey: It's hard to compare FS98 and FS2002 because the scenery is completely different. While Mexican Pyramids seem to be missing in FS2002, the Acropolis in Athens is MUCH more densely populated!

Thanks!

Hi Christopher,

Thank you for posting...I guess not many folks here fly FS8, I did for years and continued even when FS9 came out then I phased out FS8 over time. Yes, FS8 does have problems some say it is a updated FS2000...but FS9 is light years ahead of FS8, I hope someone here can address your problem...there are a lot of good helpful people here...so give it a little time and someone will help you.

Cheers

Casey

Christopher,
If you have a fairly competent computer rig with a decent graphics card you may want to consider taking one more step up to FS2004 before you spend much time troubleshooting or customizing your FS2002 install. When my FS2002 install got locked up on a defective external HD I went to FS2004 and haven't looked back. Even on my old 2000-vintage Compaq with TNT 64 graphics card I could still get 20-30 FPS on a good day flying a not-too-advanced aircraft over default scenery. I'm sure you have a better rig than that. It's still available at eBay or Amazon for under $20.
