Hello there guys Unfortunately work keeps me rather busy these days so my FS days are rather numbered :gameoff:

This repaint is of a SAAF Junkers 52/3m, #661 of 50 Sqn. The Paint scheme depicts full SAAF colours during WWii. Overall Dark Green upper surfaces and Sky Blue lower surfaces. A1-type roundels on the fuselage, A-type on the lower wing surface and B-type on the upper wing surface with full height fin flash on the tail fin. Serial number added to the lower rear fuselage in black.

A Search at http://www.flightsim.com or http://www.avsim.com must be done for the freeware Junkers Ju-52_V.2 package by O. Fischer.

The original paintkit for the Ju52 (V2) by O.Fischer was used to paint this scheme.

I have uploaded the repaint at http://www.flightsim.com so be sure to check it out! Make a search for either SAAF or Pieters, if the repaints do not show yet it maybe due to the servers not showing them yet.

I have included a few screenshots below to show how it looks...

Blessings and enjoy flying!! :salute:

Always an event when you show up Morne! That is a lovely looking paintjob, downloading it as I type & looking forward to getting it into Golden Wings. Thank you sir! :salute::icon29:

Great stuff Morne, a really nice alternative dress for an old auntie. This is torture, all these nice things just now and I can't even fly!!

SAAF Ju 52

Just picked the new textures up. Thanks!

How did the 50 Squadron come by the Ju 52 I wonder? The squadron flew under Bomber Command and suffered fairly heavy losses in the air offensive against Germany.

South African Airways took delivery of a number of Tante Ju throughout the latter half of the 1930s. At the outbreak of war they were impressed for military service.

Ah so. That solves the mystery. Thanks for the info. Do you know if they used them in England or in South Africa?

My interest is because I like to fly period aircraft in the locals that they actually flew in. Either way, it's interesting to see Tanta Ju in an allied livery.

According to Wikipedia:

They enabled services thrice-weekly Durban–Johannesburg, with weekly services on the Durban-East London-Port Elizabeth-George/Mossel Bay-Cape Town route.[SUP] [/SUP]On 1 July 1935, SAA moved its operations to Rand Airport as it became increasingly obvious that Johannesburg would become the country's aviation hub, which coincided with the launching of Rand–Durban–East London–Port Elizabeth–Cape Town services. From July the following year a weekly Rand–Kimberley–Beaufort West–Cape Town service commenced; in April 1936, all Rand–Cape Town services were taken over from Imperial Airways. A fourth Ju 52/3m shortly joined the fleet.

Hi there,

BEA (British European Airways) used a few Ju-52s just after WW2. There are some photos of G-AHOF, G-AHOG and G-AHOK on the internet.

In the Netherlands the Rijksluchtvaartdienst (Dutch civil aviation authority) owned two: PH-UBA "Opa" ("Grandad") and PH-UBC "Opoe" ("Granny"). As far as I know they were briefly used by the Rijksluchtvaartschool (Dutch aviation school). There is at least one photo of PH-UBA on the internet.

Cheers,
Maarten
