FS2004 will not load now!

SOH-CM-2023
For the life of me I can't figure this. I've been building my FS9.1 for years and have had no problems. Lots of add on scenery and aircraft. Then over night I start it up and I get is the splash screen and the revolving load thing as in a normal start up. But, it won't load.
Checking around it was suggested to remove the most recently added scenery or aircraft which I have done, but no joy. I'm on Windows 8.1 and have no issues with it.

Just one day it was fine and the next a no go. Any help would REALLY be appreciated.

Stoney, I feel for you. :ernaehrung004:

I was ready to jump on "a new/updated OS" solution, however, I did run into a problem with FS2002 where I was no longer able to get a stable connection (more like any connection) between FSUIPC and ARRCAB. :dizzy:
For a long time I figured that FSUIPC had been updated due to some security hassles and now it just wouldn't play ball with FS2002.

A couple of years ago, I installed the F-104 from Capt. Sim in FS9 and noticed that ARRCAB had been gorked again. I deleted the package via Windows plus some manual folder deletes but that didn't cure the problem. :dizzy:

So, I'm guessing that you installed something that also inserted an entry in your Registry. In my case, I had to re-install an older clone of my entire set up (FS2002 and FS9.1). It was like crushing an ant hill with a bucket loader but it worked and it was fairly quick. This didn't fix my FS2002 woes, my "clone" back-ups were too recent to fix that side of the problem but it did make me realize that FSUIPC and ARRCAB probably weren't the culprits. I'm guessing, again, but I don't think doing a full re-install of FS will cure anything.

One other thing just dawned on me. Check your RAM.
RAM sticks can go bad over time but you should also try unclipping them from the Mo Board, check for crud and boogers on the connections, then re-seat your RAM. With Win 8 it can be tough, but try to find a program that will test/diagnose your RAM.

It also sounds obvious, which is why we might not see it but, have you checked your main drive capacity?
You didn't say if you're running VRam settings but this can cause problems if the main drive is almost full.

I have exactly the same problem, well.. sort of!
I'm on Windows 11 & have an existing install that runs perfectly.
I decided to do a 2nd install of FS2004. I've done this many times before.
Anyway, when I ran the 2nd install for the first time, it worked. I then added scenery & planes, and it started, then just as Stoney said, it died.
Then I tried a completely default install, same issue... it died.
Not an add-on issue, as nothing has been added to the sim. My RAM (16GB) is also fine.

So my first install still runs perfectly, and another just dies.

I had a look at Window's Event Viewer, & it told me that there is a faulting module - mshtml.dll
That dll is (according to Google) is a part of the Internet Explorer web browser, & is used to render HTML pages! & that confuses the issue even more! :banghead:

I think that I'll do an in-place Windows 11 repair to sort things out,.

Faulting application name: FS9D.exe, version: 9.1.0.40901, time stamp: 0x4135a208
Faulting module name: mshtml.dll, version: 11.0.26100.2894, time stamp: 0x0bd2fa87
Exception code: 0xc0000409
Fault offset: 0x007be133
Faulting process id: 0x47CC
Faulting application start time: 0x1DB6B0A58AD0D90
Faulting application path: D:\Flight Simulator 2004 Default\FS9D.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Windows\System32\mshtml.dll
Report Id: a2ac9806-f96e-4243-8c17-95ba69c7ad0f
Faulting package full name:
Faulting package-relative application ID:

Maybe a non technical idea but I had this happen a month or so ago and it came down to the last airplane I had modified. I had to go back and delete it. I had been modding the panel, I think.

I've done a fresh install, ran it, deleted the fs9.cfg, reran it, still crashes. But my original install works.:jump::wiggle:
I've now tried 2 new installs (separate fs9.exe's & configs) & have just done a Windows 11 Repair (that did sort out another unrelated issue.
I still get the same faulting module, mshtml.dll as per Events Viewer. :redfire:

Sigh!! :banghead:

Robin, just for the heck of it, right click your scenery.cfg in the new install and open it with notepad.
Check if it lists a bunch of scenery you don't have in your Addon Scenery folder.

Well, there's definitely something different about the Install that works vs. the subsequent Installs that have failed. If the 'mshtml.dll' is what is causing said Installs to Crash, given that part of the Filename is 'html', and given that W11 depends so much on "cloud based" Computing, I would surmise that it has to do with a recent Windows Update. Why said Update is not affecting or infiltrating the Install that works I cannot say.

Also bear in mind that I have no experience with any Windows version above W7, so take what I say with many grains of Salt...

Nothing new in the scenery.cfg. 38 default entries only.
I also did Sbob's suggestion as per his Redirect link.

The only thing left for me to try, is to do a copy & paste of the 2nd install, to make a 3rd install that is NOT registered in the Registry,

Ok. I don't know what has happened, BUT, I remembered that I did put a new Traffic file (DLF_Castle_FS9) along with the new ai B52 and KC135R aircraft. I removed them to see if maybe that was the problem and she loaded just like normal! The relief I felt when I saw that rotating Cessna was something. So I really don't know what the issue was.

I put that traffic file back in and it wouldn't load!!

OK, that makes a lot of sense. :biggrin-new: :ernaehrung004::eagerness:
If you have a plane that uses Rick M's Radar gauge (F-16), try flying around southern Cali (San Fran to LA).
There's already a TON of AI zooming around. :dizzy:
If you installed MAIW's NAS LeMoore and/or MCAS Miramar, it just gets worse.

I found an AI T-43 over at MAIW that I wanted to fly around Mather until I remembered the congestion problems.

I'll make a note of that in the B-52 thread. :wiggle:
