FS2024 Installation and Add-On Tips

If anyone wants to move their Community folder to a less nonsensical place than...

C:\Users\[YOURNAME]\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages

...before they start downloading Marketplace and web add-ons, here's how to change the folder:

Find your usercfg.opt file in the folder below and edit it in Notepad:
c:\Users\[YOURNAME]\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\

Change this line (in my config, it's the last line in the file) to something like this, with the folder where you want your files stored:

InstalledPackagesPath "S:\FS2024"

At the very least, it will likely save you some headaches from long filenames at some point in the future, in addition to being findable without pinning it to File Explorer.

(And as I mentioned in the Utilities topic, MSFS Addons Linker has been updated for FS2024. Also beta testing an FS2024 version of Windsailor.)

I stumbled upon a page that allows downloads of 2020 updates. I was able to change the Community folder from within that page. I added it to my 2024 folder that I had created when downloading the program. However, I haven't tried to move anything into the new Community folder yet.

I'm having a very difficult time setting my Logitech Extreme 3D PRO control stick. Are there any tutorials out on how to do this?

My location is: C:\Users\mrjlb\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages
Note Local inserted in the address.

John: I've successfully loaded my Louisville scenery in the Community folder. Pleased to know no problems.

Tiger: I have the same cockpit problem. I can't find the right combination and I don't understand why some attempts to make changes don't work.

We need some good tutorials on Controls and keystrokes combinations used in 2020 for 2024.

Those white circles with numbers covering option assignments hide the actual assignment.(n)

No need to manually edit files. Apparently there's an easier way within the sim itself to change the location of the community folder. Here's a YT-video, unfortunately in German without English subtitles. But if you look at the screen and pause the video if necessary, you can figure out what to do.

Yeah, I wish I could edit the original post, but the S-O software only allows edits for a short time.

Now that I can get into the sim, I see that if you go to your Library screen, you can click the gear next to the Search box and change your Community folder location. Very nice that they added a button to open the folder, too.

Honestly, I downright hate the UI.

they offer the option to change the options per aircraft, but can't we do that for all of hem and hen change per aircraft afterwards?

Still, I'm happy to have been able to download the thing without issues.

Still looking for the option to download the packages without having to do so every time.

I think you can. It gives you the option to "apply [assignment] to all airplanes". Agreed though, the UI seems needlessly complicated, and not particularly intuitive.

Anyone know if 2024 uses the same keyboard shortcuts?
In many cases, no.
For example, Keyboard MSFS 2020, Ctrl + F1 to F9 can move the cockpit view around.
MSFS 2024, its Shift + F1 to F9.
Many changes & also many 'double ups', 1 key stroke assigned to several functions.

For those of you who use a Tobii, you probably already know you'll CTD 2024 if you try to configure it in the controller settings menu. I found a great guide for configuring Tobii using the same settings I had for 2020 (with a little bit of legwork): https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/fs2024-ctd-when-adjusting-tobii-eye-tracker-curves/666006/75
I finally disconnected my Tobii, as it had a constant, slow, right hand yaw movement that could not be stopped. This only occurs in 2024, not 2020 nor ATS.

How did you get past this message when trying to open the usercfg.opt file: "The APPX file can not be accessed because it is not encrypted as expected."

I ever got that message, but actually, the best solution is later in the thread. Unfortunately S-O won’t let me edit the original post.

I haven't been able to get into the sim yet. Even though the icon says 100% and I own the game (sim), I can't get in due to an " error on our end" so I must "retry later". It's been a few days since my 6 hr download, tried to continue the download from the MS store several times, and still no luck. I guess for the Canadian folks, it's really a hit and miss up here getting in. I am unfortunately on the miss side.

Okay, I discovered the solution if you have add-ons that you bought form Marketplace that you do not want the sim to automatically stream. I had bought the horrible LVFR static aircraft package years ago, and it was causing doubled-up parked planes at all the airports it included.

First, you have to find the exact name of the package. You can look at your StreamedPackages folder to find the exact name. For my MS Marketplace copy of MSFS, the folder is here:
C:\Users\[YOURNAME]\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\StreamedPackages

Then, in your Community folder, create an empty older with the exact name of the add-ons you do not want MSFS2024 to load, or to show in the selection list. For instance, here's my Community folder with nothing active via Addons Linker:

So I'm able to eliminate not just the LVFR statics, but also the OrbX Optica and the FFX version of the Vision Jet, the horribad Bredok Typhoon (hey, when I bought it, it was the only supersonic plane in MSFS!), some 1935 Redwing airports, and the Asobo Denver that conflicts with my third-party Denver.

@DennyA I've been using the google machine, but can't seem to find that folder for us steam users. You got a link that could help maybe? Thanks!
