FS9 cleaner-upper tools?

I use PS Panel Studio to scan for and delete unused gauge files, but, that’s all it does. I’d like to also remove unused effects files, texture files from the main texture folder, sound files, etc. Is there a tool out there that does all that? I’m trying to streamline and clean up my FS9 installation.

FlightSim Manager v2.8.5 Best tool for managing FS9. It'll also look for unused gauges, effects, etc. It's also freeware.

However, you'll need to either use a patch file, or a Run-As-Date program (which is what i use), since the .exe file has expired.

Ok, please clarify "Patch File". . . .what is it and where would it be found?
also please clarify "Run-as-date Program", what is it, where do you find it, how does it work.
These may be everyday functions to you, but they mean nothing to me and I'd like to take advantage of flightsim manager as well. Oh and how does an exe file "expire"?

Thanks FengZ. I have FlightSim Manager 2.8.5, and wondered why it wouldn’t run. Now it works, and seems to do what I want.

Falcon: I figured out the Run As Date thing, and it’s pretty cool. Download this file:

http://www.download.com/RunAsDate/3000-2094_4-10717342.html

It’s free, requires no installation, and is easy to use. After installing FlightSim Manager (it will install fine, it just doesn’t run after installation), run the RunAsDate program, point it to the FlightSim Manager exe file, and pick a date in 2006, before the silly program “expired”. And it will run!

Alternatively, I’ve attached the RunAsDate zip file. Remove the .txt from the downladed file…

sorry i should have been more clear :)

The author put a time lock on this program, so the .exe expired about a year ago...which means it won't run.

However, the RunAsDate program (which PRB has found the link to), allows it to "trick" the program to think the date is whatever you set it to be. So put 2005 as the year, and the program will run fine. (this is the method i use).

the patch file is a "hacked" .exe (or hacked .dll, i forget which) that somebody re-wrote and uploaded to Flightsim.com however, this patch didn't work for me because my default installation of FSM 2.8.5 was not in the original location, which is a requirement for this patch to work correctly.

hope this helps.

Hi all,
Where can I get FlightSim Manager 2.8.5. I have looked for it but can only see it on torrent sites.
Thanks,

I also found the patch file which works perfectly, thanks!!:ernae:
Hey Falcon -- I found FSM2.8.5 but I didn't see the patch listed at Avsim. Is it the "run date program" discussed in this thread? I am a little unclear as to what is being specified here. Please enlighten us and tell where you found this "patch"....

Cheers -- BB686:USA-flag:

Hi Ed:

In case some additional info on this might still be of interest, I had posted on this in detail at simFlight Forums back in October, 2008:

Hope this helps! :mixedsmi:

I sometimes have a hard time understanding just how to do things. A couple of questions if I may.
1) Do I install fsm285 into FS9?
2) Then do I install startfsm patch into fsm285?
3) Or should I place fsm285 into a temp folder install the patch and then put the whole works in the place it belongs?
Thanks everyone.
Bob

Bob,

1) You can install FlightSim Manager anywhere you like. When you run it, it will find your FS9 installation and collect all the data it needs to operate.

2) The startfms “patch” is not really a patch at all. It’s a small program that first sets your system time back to 2005, launches FSM, then sets your system time back to what it was (current time). I haven’t tried that method, but it looks like you plave the files from the startfsm.zip file into the same folder as the FSM installation, then use the startFSM.bat file to launch FSM.

I think I like the RunAsDate method a little better. The RunAsDate program is not tailored specifically to FSM. It will run any program “as date” as needed, and it doesn’t mess with your computer’s system time.

3) See 1) and 2) above. :)

I've run it a few times today using the startfsm file. So far, it has NOT reset my time back to correct, even tho it specifically says it will in the readme. :banghead:

It also seems to have a memory leak, as after working with it for an hour or so, everything slows waaaay down, and a reboot is required to bring it back. :banghead:

Going to try it with the RunAsDate program tomorrow, to see what happens.
