fs9 in windows 8.1 questions

Just got a new computer with win8.

1. The sim doesn't recognize fs9.cfg changes. It's in ProgramData\Microsoft\FS9. Changes made in the sim aren't written to the cfg file and changes made in the cfg aren't recognized by the sim. I've changed the folder to give me full control.

2. The aircraft preview screen works in window mode but not in full screen. In full screen only a black rectangle is shown.

If anybody has any ideas especially to #1, they will be greatly appreciated.

The FS9.CFG you want to change will be found at c:\Users\<your name>\Appdata\Microsoft\Roaming\FS9. Ignore all others.

The problem with the preview screen is not unknown. I have it, too. It isn't down to Windows, though.
I'm afraid that you'll have to do what I do and go back to Windowed mode while you select your aircraft.

Thanks very much for the answer to #1. All is well. I like full screen so I'll just skip the preview pic instead of going back and forth.

Hi,
I have to run FS9 in windowed mode to avoid that black screen, but I'm used to it now!

As for the other problem, my folder tree goes slightly differently as I have FS9 like this...

C; Microsoft games; Flight Simulator 9 and that way any changes I make to any cfg's etc are easily saveable.

Good Luck!

Andy.

Just hold down <Alt> and hit <Return> to go back and forth. Easy.

Yep but for some reason all that changing bothers my ocd. I used to fly in a window all the time because it seemed more stable in win7 which I used for a few years but the top bar is now double so I'm going to stick with full screen. I should have just kept XP. Every new windows seems to get heavier and more complex.

The problem isn't anything to do with Windows. It's the anti-aliasing of your graphics card, and FS9 can't do anything about it.
If you have FSX installed as well, you'll find that FSX doesn't suffer from this problem at all.

Perhaps you should consider converting to "The Dark Side"?

haha. No, I'm not going to do that. Just thinking about buying all those addons again makes me shudder. And even with my new computer I'd be starting over trying to push frame rates. I finally got to where I feel good about everything and won't change. The only thing I'll be missing is the aircraft previews and I'll just put up with that. If I get tired of it, I have a real win7 program (as opposed to oem) that I can install but I like some of the game apps that I can get with win8.
