FS9 video problem

Hi,

I haven't flown for a while, but last night I decided I'd fly the WoP Mustang.

I recently bought a new Vista installed PC, and haven't had any real problems until now. The machine is very capable of running FS9; Intel 2.40 Ghz dual core CPU, 256MB Radeon HD3450 graphics card, and 2 gb of RAM. I'm running an HP w1907v flatscreen monitor at 1440x900 resolution at the recommended refresh rate of 60 hertz.

I've always run FS in full screen mode, so the problem comes when switching screens, when I hit Alt to access the menus, or F9 to access FSNav. I can access these, but when I go to return to the sim, it minimises or just has a black screen with the pointer and Vista hourglass. The only way out is to shut the game down.

I'm now getting extremely frustrated as I've checked my settings and everything seems to be set correctly. I've got the latest drivers for the card, and even tried running the compatability mode for XP Service pack 2 with no success.

I hope all this makes sense, any help would be much appreciated.

It seems to be an ATI problem, mine does the same thing sometimes but not always. I have an older Radeon x1950 Pro card, great graphics but the 'black screen' problem can get annoying.

So it it maybe worth investing in a decent new graphics card then? Mmmm that's a bit annoying concidering I've just splashed out on a new PC! :banghead:

What card do you guys recommend for running FS9 on Vista, bearing in mind I don't have a fortune to spend ;)!
 
Stay away from the 9 series Nvidia as they have some chip issues..go the 260 route and I just got notice they have them in smaller (nm) releases now. Think it was EVGA sent me notice.

I have a similar problem with an Nvidea 8800gtx.It flies beautifully in full screen mode.But in windowed mode it just locks up if I try to change view.Have to go back to full screen mode to change.
Also if I minimize it to desktop I get the same problem you have.A blck screen.So it is not just ATI.I think it is a Vista problem fullstop.

Yep this issue happened to me in XP too, but the other way round running fullscreen and changing to windowed view.
