FS9 won't start!

Duckie

SOH-CM-2024
It was bound to happen sooner or later! Been on the same install since 2007, but now.....:(

I apologize for having to ask because I've seen the previous posts discussing it but I am unable to locate any of them.

I've done all I know to do. Here's the situation.

Loaded up the Virt C-17 and took it for a test hop. Wow! Gotta learn to fly all over again! Anyway, then began installing more MAIW places and planes and a couple fo Hawaii sceneries. Went to open FS9 to do the scenery library installs and got the MS screen of death! Interestingly enough, before the BS of death flagged I got the banners telling that FS was building new scenery files. Once those were executed, a few more seconds of grinding then the bad news.

Since I manually install all my addons I was able to remove all the files I and just installed but no joy!

I next tried deleting both the FS9 cfg and scenery cfg files, one at a time, but to no avail. The scenery cfg rebuilds itself but the FS9 cfg never gets the chance before the failure occurs. I've also tried starting from a saved flight shortcut buit that doesn't work either.

If anyone has any further suggestions or can point me to one of the discussion threads re this subject it would be greatly appreciated.

Note: I have 3 other installs of FS9 based on eras, one on the same drive as the failed one and they all start OK.

Thanks in advance for your help

Steve

Hey Duck:

I've never had that happen to me when installing scenery however it has happened when I've done a plane or screwed up remodeling a panel..

I would try and remove the aircraft you installed (AI or the C-17) and see if it starts ok. It almost sounds like one of the AI aircraft you installed has a slight "hiccup" to it..

Just a suggestion..

Bill

Thanks WND. I have uninstalled the AI that I had installed before the problem. I have not uninstalled the C-17 because it flew without fault. I am going to uninstall it just for grins and see what happens. :salute:

Duckie, I remember reading somewhere in the distant past there is a conflict between some MAIW downloads, and some other add-ons to FS9, that will cause the BSOD. I wish I could be more specific, however, I did read it in the past and it stuck in my subconscious enough for me to not install any MAIW products because of it.

Thanks for the tip SSI01. I had not read that. :salute:

I installed 4 MAIW sceneries AFTER I installed and flew the C-17 and I have since uninstalled those 4. I have about 16 other MAIW sceneries I have been flying for some time without any problems until yesterday. I'm about to uninstall the C-17 and see what happens. I really dread rebuilding this FS9 install.

Edit: Uninstalling the C-17 didn't help.

What data error report says? Perhaps something got messed up, some dll's are missing? In recent days i got few false positives with avast on my fs files.

FOUND IT !

THANK YOU kikas for suggesting a look at the modules folder!!! :salute: :salute: :salute:

It was a dll file, "bglman.dll", loaded by some FS DreamTeam scenery before I could stop it! I was an automatic installer that did not allow manual install and I cancelled it a soon as it began to load, but obviously too late.

I found the answer on the FSDT furums.

Glad to hear you found your issue Duckie!!!

One thing I've learned that last few weeks with going to Windows 7 (and a new computer) from XP is I've gotten into the habit of loading only one thing at a time and trying it after I've loaded it...

Weeks ago when I started the swap over I loaded a bunch of stuff at once and ran into more issues than I could imagine - almost to the point I almost said the "hell with it' and was headed back to XP!! Then I decided to give it one last try and took a different approach (one thing at a time) and so far it's been working!!!! At least this way If I do have an issue - I got a good idea where it came from!!!!

Anyways, glad to hear your back on track...
