I never went to FSX as my old comps never were up to it and I really can't be buying a new comp just to run a sim. So, I've stayed with FS9, preferring to do the vintage Cal Classic late 50s early 60s stuff.

Almost a month ago, I bought a new comp to replace my old one which was having "issues" after a power surge. Wiped out the surge protector, but the comp would still work about 2/3 of the time. My new specs are:

Intel Core i5 4460 quad core 3.2ghz 64bit
8g ddr3 sdram memory
Geforce GT-730 2g
1T hard drive.

FS9 and all my addons haven't thrown anything at me yet that made it have a drop in FPS (I stay locked at 25fps for multiplayer purposes)

How is P3d with multiplayer? That is a very big issue with me on Flight Sims.

Thanks in advance

Willy, generally speaking, P3D works well with Multiplayer. The only "issue" I know of right now is one related to changing another's aircraft to something other than a Cessna 172 or Mooney or Bonanza. FSHost has not kept up with what it needs to to get that to work. They did up to a point and even that took months before a fix came about, but with the constant hotfixes after 2.5 came out. . .some developers simply decided to sit back and wait until something "long lasting" was released and to be honest, that's not what LM is about. This sim will be in a constant state of flux for some time to come as problems and additions are added and updates released.

P3DV2.5 (latest version) is phenomenal in the way it displays, in the clarity of the textures and many of the special effects it has built in (special lighting and shadow effects). Your system should have little problem running and the 2gig Graphics card is good as well because texture loading has been given over to the graphics card and is no longer handled by the cpu which frees up the cpu to handle other aspects of the sim. Makes for clear textures, little to no blurring any more and a better all around appearance as you fly.

Willy,

Ed is 150% right! the biggest bottleneck in MP is your connection!

Come on over to the darkest side! We do have cookies!!

Willy, I believe there are two ways of getting the Academic version. You can get it via a monthly payment of $xx or a one off payment of about $60. I opted for the $60 version and even though I have FSX still installed on my computer I basically use it now for beta testing. The one thing you will need to get used to is thee is no 2D panels in most aircraft. You will also be amazed at the smoothness of the sim.

The monthly subscription version is P3D Professional for developers, this is what I use. There's also a Professional Pro version for subscription, this would be the high end P3D.

The academic version is buy once. No dev version.

P3D Professional and Plus have a downside. Some addon developers don't support these versions, exclude them in the EULA or charge rediculous prizes for their products if you want to run them on the P/Pro version. So I guess the academic version would be the one to go for a non developer.

Cheers,
Mark
