FScene4X For P3D

Has anyone tried this and if so, is it worth messing with? GEX will never in my lifetime make the leap to P3D, I can't afford FTX and I'm weary of the default textures. Any opinions?

Been looking over the screenshots they have on the site and either the screens are just very poor or the ground textures really are that fuzzy. Not sure I want to go that direction for the sake of something different.

Have not tried that scenery. Even though you said you could not afford
Orbx, save a bit at a time and buy full fat areas one by one, or FTX Global.
It replaces default textures. It is really worth it. It also has a P3D installer.

Believe me this scenery is truely great. Over time you can then save up for
Vectur, Global Mesh ETC.

FScene textures are old and IMO poor quality by today's standards and pretty much at similar level to FSX originals, but the coloring is somewhat different. I'd also go with FTX Global which offers significant improvement. I have both and FTX is from totally different planet.

Thanks. If there was an FTX_US I'd buy that probably but I don't need the entire world. I'll just stick with what I have.

Well, I did something I told myself I'd never do again. I ate some of that "crow" and purchased something from Orbx. . . .FTX Global. There really isn't anything else, ground texture-wise available that's worth the trouble of downloading that's better than default really and as I mentioned, GEX will never make the move to P3D in my lifetime so FTX Global was the only alternative. I did still see areas that I frequent in Real life that don't come close to looking as they should (desert areas where it's actually forested land, sparsely populated areas where cities actually exist) but for the most part it looks good.

I just got it too. Not blown away about it, but like you I just couldn't stand the default textures anymore.

Way to go. You won't regret it. Later you might think
about mesh and vector. Orbix will be releasing North America
Landclass before or after Xmas. Europe landclass has been a
huge hit. The only trouble with Orbx products is they are addictive
It is very important to install latest Orbix Libraries after you install Global.
Also there are a ton of freeware Airports for Global. Lots for North America.

By the way there is an Orbix Freeware also available for Iceland
without restrictions, Showing Global,Vector,Landclass and Mesh.
Give it a try. It is very impressive.

The latest upgrade for Vector is in Beta testing. It should cure the few bugs.
I think one of the best investments I have made was saving up for Pilots
FTX Global Mesh. What a difference!

At the moment I still have UTX North America, but will buy North America
Landclass when it comes out. Europe looks stunning.

FTX Global will grow on you . You have probably already discovered (in ORBX's Freeware section) there are currently 18 NA Freeware packs(several airports in each pack) and 5 European Freeware packs . Also along with the Freeware packs are several individual airports people have contributed . I am fairly sure these Airports packs will work as long as you have FTX Global as your base textures . There probably are a few of these individual airports that might not install in P3D v2.3 due to no triple installer . I'm not sure . As someone else mentioned Ed , ORBX is due out a FTX North American Land class before the end of the year that should make a huge difference .

Enjoy ,

To make full use of Global you really need a good landclass for it, that is information telling what texture to draw at certain place. FSX/P3D default is quite horrible. ORBX is publishing their own LC, first is for Europe and already released. In the meantime you can try Cloud9 or SceneryTech landcalsses which are quite affordable (I believe Cloud9 is under 10 bucks per continent). Vector stuff and mesh are also one part of the experience: after all, scenery is formed from all of these together. Global textures beat the original scoring 100-0 imo, but they are only part of the story.
