FSD Updated Installers

Has anyone downloaded and successfully installed an FSD product using the new installers in the latest version of P3D? I thought I'd go ahead and download the installer since it now includes P3D as one of the options. In all the years that I've purchased aircraft and run their installers there is only one company that I've had problems with. . .FSD International. . . .and in every instance it's never been "their problem", rather something wrong with my system. That is the excuse again when I tried to install their P-38.

The download size on the website says 445meg, mine downloads to 432meg. . .but that isn't the problem apparently since the installer starts to run.
I've turned off my Anti-virus program while this attempts to install.
The installer claims that basically nothing is where it should be and that "critical Flight Simulator files cannot be found"
The installer also claims that it doesn't have sufficient permission to access all files, despite the fact that I am running as the Administrator.

Bottom line is that their "Support Team" says this is not anything that any other customer has reported so it must be a problem with my system and so they can only speculate and their sole fix was for me to try right clicking on the installer and selecting "Run as Administrator", so they aren't going to be any help at all.

From which location did you start the installer?
Is your p3d installation within the default windows folder structure (e.g. c:\programs or c:\programs (x86) ?
Maybe it's a UAC problem.
You also could check the windows event logging for any related entries, some errors show a bit more verbose here.

I never got my FSD P-38 installer to work with P3D 2.5 either Ed.

But IMHO R-W-66 is probably right. it's a UAC thing. I have it turned off all the time.

Which is why I just acquired the Milviz offering!!

Initially all downloads go to a "Downloads" folder on my desktop and it was run from there. After reading the first error log I moved it to the same drive as the P3D Installation (E Drive)

No as noted, it's on the E:

With every Windows installation since UAC was first initiated I have immediately disabled that completely. FSD's claim was that the error log I sent them showed that while I was the Administrator, the installer still lacked the needed permissions to run and that I should try right clicking and selecting "Run as Administrator" which still didn't work.

Where are those located?

Thanks Johan,
That's what I suspected. Since V2.5, LM has moved files around and they're no longer in what would be considered "normal" locations. My guess is that FSD never actually beta tested their installer with this version.

Windows logging: type eventvwr in the search box of your start menu. Windows 8.1, type eventvwr on the metro interface!

Choose custom logs, and then administrative events!

Hope this helps you a bit. But I rather suspect that you're right about FSD not testing their installers for the modern sim.

Thanks Johan. . .I just have to relate this latest problem. . .lol

I looked at the latest MilViz P-38, but I can't go that much on any airplane any more so I looked around and saw their Red Bull version. Looked good to me and to be honest, for me anyway, one P-38 is the same as any other really so I purchased it (13.99).
It installed without any problems, I start the Sim and once it loads I select the Red Bull and I immediately get an error message saying that this version is only authorized for P3D_V2 and that Flight Simulator X will now shut down, lol, lol. . .HUH??

Do you have an FSX.exe in your P3D root? Or have you used the migration tool?

No to the FSX.exe file and yes to the other, although I tried it both ways and neither really made any difference. Very frustrated right now.

I have hit on an interesting dilemma. . .I thought possibly it might be because there's a problem with the original installation of the latest version of P3D so I went to the Control Panel and attempted to do a "Repair". After a few seconds I got this:
!This action is only valid for products that are currently installed. Hmmm really? lol

Falcon, I've had the same problem. When I did eventually install it I found that the re-paint managed didn't work. I've since un-installed it, Milviz here I come!
