FSDS2 Jet Provost T5 Question

Just tried this and like the sharper look in the VC. The HD external textures didn't go down too well though. My rig doesn't like 4096x4096 and that monster 16mb dds had trees spiking almost immediately. Pulled it back to 2048 and the spiking stopped.

Thanks for reminding us of this little treasure:encouragement:

DL, don't forget the SimShed Gnat.
I always liked the look of the Gnat. That one and the Alphajet.

Anyway, I've downloaded a good 3-view of the Gnat and superimposing it over the fuselage and wing textures to do a bit more detail on the exterior (lines and rivets). I'm also going to look at the other textures and see how much better I can get them overall. He used a lot of small texture swatches for things like the flight suits and some interior areas so not sure how much more can be done with things like that. The VC panel will be redone to accommodate current gauges. I had done, about 6 years ago now, an update for the cockpit that replaced all the '98_version gauges with workable ones (https://app.box.com/shared/14pxl8k4eu). They at least allow for a full set of gauges to fly with. Every so often I still get a notice in my e-mail that someone has downloaded that file.

Anyway, I'll continue working on the Gnat, but it won't be done for a week or two. I have a Class Reunion in a couple weeks and I hope to have it done before I leave.

Looking forward to your Gnat improvements. Meanwhile, just about to enjoy this Provost. And you have inspired me to reinstall the AlphaJet too - Always wondered why it wasn't more widely used in the real world, I blv there is a civilian flown one in Ontario. Could have been a good choice to replace our Tutors imho which are getting a bit long in the tooth but now so are the Alphas. Thinks.... maybe the L-39 - are you listening Stephen Harper? Probably not. :biggrin-new:

A WIP shot of the main VC panel. Still a fair amount to do, but it's coming along.

For anyone actually interested, I've run into a few things while doing the update work. One is that the gauges are extremely distorted, which I didn't notice until after I had almost finished the panel and placed it into the sim. Rather than round gauges, once in the sim they appear egg shaped, so I'm distorting the artwork in order to produce a round (or somewhat round) gauge. Also, there are two areas, one on each side of the VC panel that are open to the outside. I suspect it's the placeholder that's causing this and there isn't anything that can be done about it unfortunately.

Work progresses.

I had the simshed gnat, Lost it in a computer upgrade and forgot all about it... so Falcon409 I'll add my voice to the howls of encouragement. Loved that aircraft. :encouragement:

Panel in Sim with shadow applied. There is a section at the top that's not finished yet that will complete the panel.

Nice work. :applause:
Thanks for the Provost update as well. :encouragement:
NP Dave, just wish I could fix the open gaps on either side of this panel. Also found (which wasn't surprising given the age of the Gnat) that it won't take an alpha channel for shine. The airplane becomes transparent, lol.

A few shots. . .almost complete. Mainly want to be sure the paint kit is proper then I'll do two other liveries in Hi-Res and that should complete what I wanted to accomplish.
