FSSC Flatarea

I instaled FSSC on my game computer but the flat area doesn`t work, any ideas.

I use groundmaker for my flat areas. It works actually make a flat area. you can also use custom textures for the ground polys. FSSC does the fuel areas where ground maker does not. I use MKafd from Martin Wright for the Airbase afd and airbase.dat.

.

Are you using the A16N flat area? If not, do so. Are your base and your flat area altitude set to the same value? Be sure that they are. There is no reason I can think of that the FSSC A16N Flat Area shouldn't work- at least no reason originating from FSSC. I have used nothing but FSSC-generated A16N flat areas over the years and have never had an issue.

Hope you get it sorted.

I can`t bring up the flat area in FSSC,that is the problem, it is blanked out. I can click on it but nothing happens. I installed FSSSC 1.2.5 then tried 1.2.7 Ithen went to1.5.1 and they all have the same problem.

First you need to decide which version you want to use - I recommend the most recent , 1.51. Then read the instructions on how to create a flat area and follow them to the letter. It works in all operating systems so I can only conclude you are doing something wrong. From what little you have said, I can't tell what. Make sure you lay out the corner points in order (1,2,3,4,5 etc) and don't overlap them.

You should be able to open FSSC, right click anywhere on the new screen which will open a small menu window and left click "New Misc. Object", which will open a second drop down window then left click Flat Area.

I understood that FSSC can only be run in 32 bit operating systems. Shadow, are you able to run it with Win 7 or 8 64 bit O/S?

I had the same issue. Thats why I went with Groundmaker. For what ever reason the option CAN NOT be selected. Its gray where everything else is black.

Maybe something is missing from the download or getting taken out by an anti-virus. What ever the reason is the flat area does not work. That is the only part. Which is weird.

Well, I stand corrected. I have never encountered such a event with FSSC. So, I am totally at a loss. I am still running Windows XP-Pro on my scenery-making rig. I wonder if maybe these newer versions of Windows don't get along with FSSC.

Bob, is the flat area the only FSSC menu option that behaves like that?

Maskrider, Captain Kurt: I built the Korea bases scenery set for Talon using FSSC 1.51 on a windows 8 64 bit laptop... no problems at all were encountered.

As fare as I can tell that is the only option that I have a problem with. In order to get my scenery done for Guadalcanal I found an old version of FSSC on a real old cd that did ok but now I can`t locate it. I can`t understand why FSSC 1.25,1.27 and 1.51 wont allow me to use the flat area.

i'm running XP as well though not the pro version. and like Bob its seems to be the only feature not working. is there a .dll that ist looking for or some other reg item that we might be missing. i had to add a few when i first installed it. maybe that is something we need.

don't we need some .ocx files?

Now i have added those I think. I could be missing one. I don't get the error anymore. Maybe we have to un-install FSSC then re-install after. This I have not done. Thats all that I can think of.

MaskRider, Sorry if that other post came off gruff. I didn't intend it that way. After reading the post I felt bad. Sorry.

Blood_Hawk23,

No, not at all. I actually thought maybe I came off sounding a bit officious when responding to bobhegf. Your reply was enlightening.

WRT, .dll and .ocx files, I have nothing useful to add. I pretty much leave it to others to steer me in the right direction when it come to these sorts of files.

BTW- would these dll and ocx files be located in the FSSC parent directory? The Windows system folder? Are they FSSC specific? I have a very old version and a newer version of FSSC installed - 1.2.15 and 1.5.11 - and both work fine.

I was thinking that if they are easily identifiable and located, I could check whatever dlls and ocx files I have against those that you or bobhegf has to see if there is any sort of discrepancy. Then pass along those files that I have that you don't to see if it fixes the problem.

the ocx files are part of windows. i think in the system32 folder. I can't remember right off hand. for what ever reason new installs of Windows XP (at least my copy which is the Home version) doesn't have them or fails to register them.

I think that there was 3 all together I can't remember the names. i'll have to keep looking. I'll have to backup my work then unistall FSSC to test the idea. As far as the dlls go i believe everything should be ok there.

Bob,
Where did you download your copy of FSSC from?

maybe its something missing on that end.

I think it was simaviation or Avsim, not sure which but ever which one it is has the 1.25 and 1.27 as d/l.
