FSUIPC + Heli-kit

im going to be buying my heli-kit controller in about a week,Martin with Heli-kit says to just calibrate it and assign the whatevers (havin a brainfart)in FSX,but does FSUIPC support helicopter controls?..i mean cyclic/collective/throttle? throttle yes...but what do i do for the cyclic, collective and torque peddles?

when i fly with the heli-kit,i plan on putting one,or both of the CH throttles on a shelf next to me,and i want to use the switches on them for all the differant things,,radios/lights/ect.

In fact the collective is usually mapped to the throttle, the cyclic to the ailerons and horizontal stab, and the throttle to the mixture, and the torque peddles to the rudder, if I remember correctly. In most cases you put the throttle (Mixture) to max and let the governor do the work, you will be pulling the Collective (throttle) up and down to control the blade pitch and corresponding lift.

I used a different custom helicopter controller that had a twist grip throttle with FSUIPC and it worked perfectly. FSUIPC will read the twist grip as an axis. Assign that one to Mixture. Assign the collective's up/down movement to Throttle. You should be good to go. Hope that helps.

Can't recall exactly which is assigned to which at the moment (at work on my work laptop), but I believe the hardware collective is assigned to the throttle axis, while the hardware throttle control is assigned to the mixture axis. I might have that backwards, but I believe that's right.

I've assigned separate hardware controls to each axis for different helicopter addons, and it works well. You shouldn't have any issues.

ok thanks guys...but that just seems so odd that the collective will act as the throttle when you move it up and down..thats not how you fly a helicopter...you pretty much set your throttle before lifting the collective to take off..you dont use the collective for rpms, just to change the blade position...

It's really just a workaround (or hack) that's necessary because FSX isn't tuned for helos. Although the collective is assigned to the throttle axis, if won't affect RPM. The mixture axis will do that. The collective will only affect torque. So if you forget about what the assignments are called, everything actually works correctly. Think of it this way - the collective produces thrust, which to FSX is the end result of moving the throttle. The twist grip produces power to the engine, which to FSX is the end result of adjusting the mixture. Mechanically it's a bit backward, but like other hack solutions, it works.
